Delta’s biggest profit in ten years |

Delta Air Lines is already acclaimed as the world’s biggest airline by revenue. It has reported its best quarterly results for a decade. There has been a rising demand for travel in the US and it helped in increasing its yields and allowed it to raise ticket prices.
Net profit for the three months to the end of June was at $467m. It was the airline’s first quarterly profit in two years. There was a rise in the revenue, $8.2bn compared with $7bn a year ago. Ticket prices were also increased by 16.7 percent while a year ago the costs rose only 5.4 percent. Richard Anderson, chief executive, stated: “Delta’s profit this quarter is our best result in a decade and proof that our plan has positioned us well as the economy begins its recovery.”

There were considerable increases in the passenger revenue and cargo. Delta has also announced a $90m profit sharing scheme for employees." |

Emirates orders 30 Boeing 777-300ERs |

Emirates, has placed an order with Boeing for an additional 30 777-300ER aircraft, costing approximately US$9.1 billion (AED 33.4 billion) in list prices. The new order will add to the fleet of 71 777-300ERs previously ordered, of which 53 aircraft are currently in service.
His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Prime Minister and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai, has witnessed the signing at the Farnborough Air Show. It was signed between H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group and Jim Albaugh, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

“Emirates is the world’s largest operator of 777s and this latest order, adding to 71 777-300ERs previously ordered, affirms Emirates’ strategy to become a world leading carrier and to further establish Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel,” commented H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum. “Our latest deal signals Emirates’ confidence in the growth of the thriving aviation sector and our commitment to building a modern, environmentally efficient fleet for tomorrow,” he further said.
The 777-300ER are scheduled to be operated in a three-class configuration with eight First class, 42 Business class and 310 Economy class seats while offering an additional cargo payload of 20.1 tonnes.

Japan Airlines and British Airways deepens codeshare cooperation: |

Japan
Airlines (JAL) and British Airways (BA), both members of leading
quality airline alliance oneworld®, have signed an agreement to
expand their codeshare partnership. Starting from March 28, 2010,
JAL will codeshare with BA on nine new routes and from April 28,
2010, 4 new routes. All these routes will be in the European region.
Including the current ones, now the total number of codeshare
flights between the two airlines will be 23.
JAL is now providing its customers with even more convenient traveling to popular tourist destinations like Madrid and Barcelona, to business cities like Berlin and Munich,
etc. Reservations and ticket sales begin on the
respective commencement dates of the new codeshare flights.

American Airlines to launch additional service between MIA and EZE: |

American
Airlines has declared that it will start a new seasonal flight
between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Ezeiza International
Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This flight will fly four
times a week, from July 2 through Aug. 23, 2010. American is a
founding member of the global oneworld® Alliance. It will fly the
new route with its 247-seat, three-class Boeing 777-200
aircraft, featuring 16 seats in First Class, 37 seats in
Business Class, and 194 seats in Economy. American flies all
routes to Argentina on its B777-200 aircraft. “As we
celebrate 20 years of service to Buenos Aires, we are
delighted to offer this new flight during the high
season,” stated Peter Dolara,

Lufthansa
will again fly to Iraq:
Lufthansa has decided to fly to Iraq, again after 20 years. On 25
April 2010, Lufthansa will start services from Frankfurt to Erbil in
Northern Iraq. The German airline will use an Airbus A319 with 132
seats in Business and Economy Class. Lufthansa is looking forward to
expanding its route network in the Middle East and is planning to
offer 100 flights each week: serving upto 15 destinations in twelve
countries. Since 2006, Vienna by Austrian Airlines, which works
under the Lufthansa Group banner, has been flying to Ebril. It flies
on a codeshare basis with Lufthansa, which offers customers of both
the airlines a choice of nine flights a week to Erbil. Lufthansa
also intends to resume flights to the Iraqi capital Baghdad this
year, and is currently making the necessary preparations to do so.
