Set in the historical peninsula, wine tastings at Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet are a time for friends to enjoy the last day of the week in the enchanting surroundings of the Old City and have a journey through Turkish vineyards and beyond.
Wine lovers are invited to experience these leisurely wine tastings in the Winter Garden and Lounge of Four Seasons every Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. A wine flight from a different producer, grape or region is accompanied by Italian, French and Turkish cheeses. The cheese buffet features a rich variety ranging from delicious classics from around the world such as parmesan, brie and edam to local delicacies including Van herb cheese, Kars gruyere cheese, smoked local goat cheese, Erzincan tulum cheese and Konya moldy cheese.
These charming gatherings where selected local and imported wines can be tasted are enriched with a surprise each week. Four Seasons hosts a wine expert from a different brand to provide further information on the grape or region.
There is more than one good reason to taste local wine when one is in Istanbul. Good wine has been produced in Turkey since Neolithic Hittite times, and still is. Turkey offers an array of different wines and styles, including intriguing domestic varieties. Several of Anatolia's climatic regions, including the Marmara and Aegean, the East and the Southeast, some with volcanic soil (such as Cappadocia), are suitable for producing wine grapes.
