A conceptual design for the Lane Field North Hotel project has been approved by the Board of Port Commissioners. The design by LPP Lane Field, LLC, calls for a 400-room dual-branded hotel in a single tower at Broadway and Pacific Highway, where the Pacific Coast Padres ballpark was once located.
The approximately $115 million Lane Field development would include a 250-room hotel brand, similar to a Hilton Garden Inn and an extended-stay 150-room hotel brand, similar to a Homewood Suites.
The two hotels would share common elevators, yet have separate lobbies. The hotels would be situated to ensure commanding views of the city and San Diego Bay. The preliminary concept includes public space atop the tower, including potential for a rooftop café.
An above-ground podium structure will include retail and restaurant space, hotel amenities and approximately 365 parking spaces, with 41 dedicated to the public.
Approval of the project allows for LPP Lane Field, LLC, to submit its application for California Coastal Commission approval. The California Coastal Commission granted the developer a Coastal Development Permit in January 2009. The project has since been revised to include a smaller footprint to include development of a public park along Harbor Drive – as part of the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan, Phase I – so an amendment to the Coastal Development Permit must be approved by the California Coastal Commission.
