In a significant announcement, Western Railway has revealed that there will be substantial disruptions to suburban train services this weekend. This closure will support vital work on the Mumbai Metro Line-6 project. Specifically, from 9:30 PM on Saturday, May 2, until 7:30 AM on Sunday, May 3, a 10-hour night block will be implemented for the installation of steel girders between Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari stations.
Due to this work, the 6th line will be temporarily out of service, leading to diversions and cancellations of regular train services. Passengers are urged to adjust their travel plans accordingly, as these changes are necessary to facilitate the construction of the Metro Line-6, a project designed to improve connectivity and alleviate congestion across Mumbai.
During the block period, trains normally operating on the 6th line will be rerouted to the UP Fast line between Borivali and Andheri stations. Additionally, an additional block impacting both the UP Fast and the 5th line will be in effect between 1 AM and 4 AM. Therefore, travelers should be prepared for several suburban services to be either canceled or diverted during these hours.
To help mitigate disruptions, Western Railway advises commuters to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternate travel options. Passengers can expect updates and announcements at all suburban stations, ensuring they are informed about train schedules and any service alterations.
Among the affected services is the Train No 19038 Avadh Express, which will experience delays of approximately 30 minutes between Surat and Borivali due to the ongoing construction efforts. This delay is noteworthy, but local commuters will likely feel the most significant impact.
In light of these service disruptions, Western Railway urges passengers to cooperate with railway officials and exercise patience during the construction period. Though the night closure is essential for the timely advancement of the Metro Line-6 project, the railway is committed to minimizing inconveniences for passengers, ensuring transit remains as smooth as possible.
Concurrent with the Metro Line-6 construction efforts, Western Railway has also commenced a significant infrastructure upgrade at Bhayandar station. Dismantling of the staircase on the second north foot overbridge (FOB) at Platform No 6 has begun, with the aim of enhancing the station’s overall functionality for passengers.
This renovation is crucial for the construction of a new elevated deck, which is anticipated to significantly improve the movement and access of passengers traversing the station. With the growing number of individuals using Bhayandar station, this upgrade will greatly enhance the user experience by alleviating congestion in this busy hub.
Although these developments may cause temporary disruptions, particularly for those using Platform No 6, passengers can utilize the skywalk connecting the two north FOBs over Platform No 5 as an alternative route. This skywalk will remain open and operational throughout the duration of the dismantling, allowing for continued access between platforms.
Western Railway assures commuters that while the modifications are essential for the station’s future efficiency, they acknowledge the temporary inconveniences that will arise. As highlighted, the completion of the new deck is expected to enhance station operations for smoother and more efficient transit for all passengers.
The announcement of service disruptions due to the night block and infrastructural upgrades at Bhayandar station underline Western Railway’s commitment to enhancing the public transport framework in Mumbai. The ongoing Metro construction is strategically aimed at reducing congestion and providing an efficient travel alternative to commuters, while the station enhancements will assure better transit within the city’s key railway nodes.
Though these projects may result in immediate inconveniences, they are critical to the city’s progressive development and will ultimately lead to improved commuting experiences. Travelers are encouraged to remain informed about service changes and adapt their travel arrangements accordingly.
Western Railway continually strides towards enhancing travel quality in Mumbai to meet the demands of its growing population. While the upcoming disruptions may be inevitable, commuters can look forward to improved services and upgraded infrastructure that signify long-term benefits for daily travel.
