Thailand Boosts North American Tourism: A Wellness-Focused Strategy

Thailand is taking bold steps to enhance its tourism presence in North America through a multifaceted approach that focuses on industry engagement and wellness-focused travel experiences. By uniting 30 tourism suppliers with influential travel advisors, the initiative has sparked around 1,800 business meetings, fostering new commercial relationships and opening doors for future collaborations. At the same time, the expansion of year-round flight access is ensuring that travelers from North America can plan convenient visits to Thailand, thus enhancing tourism sustainability.

Between April 7 and 13, the roadshow traversed key cities including Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and Vancouver, gathering between 30 to 40 travel advisors in each location. These impressive participation levels illustrate just how crucial North America has become as a vital market for Thailand’s long-haul tourism strategy. This campaign is among Thailand’s most proactive outreach efforts aimed at boosting North American engagement in recent years.

The event featured diverse representatives from the Thai tourism sector, including hotels, destination management companies, and experiential travel providers. Through a series of pre-arranged meetings and networking opportunities, these suppliers connected directly with North American buyers, allowing for the exchange of valuable market insights and the identification of new business avenues. This setup was designed to facilitate in-depth discussions, helping both Thai suppliers and travel advisors adapt to shifting travel trends and customer expectations.

A key highlight of the event was the significant growth in air connectivity between Thailand and North America. Notably, Air Canada plans to enhance its direct flights to Thailand, transitioning to a year-round operation starting in 2026, which marks a significant shift from a seasonal timetable. This will offer higher flexibility and consistency for discerning travelers looking to visit Thailand at any point throughout the year.

Ongoing collaborations with major airlines—including Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, EVA Air, and China Airlines—are also strengthening trans-Pacific travel options, making various routes more convenient and accessible for travelers departing from different North American hubs.

During the roadshow, market data underscored the importance of this region in driving tourism. In 2025, the United States emerged as one of Thailand’s top ten international source markets, sending over 1.08 million visitors to the country. Canada’s numbers also showed positive momentum, with approximately 263,954 arrivals, reflecting a 5% growth from the previous year. These statistics highlight the strong resilience of North American travelers’ interest in exploring long-haul destinations, even amid global challenges.

Amidst this growth, the roadshow also marked a reveal of Thailand’s renewed tourism strategy emphasizing wellness and meaningful travel experiences. Its 2026 global campaign, titled “Healing is the New Luxury,” signifies this focus shift. Today’s travelers increasingly seek journeys that not only offer relaxation but also rejuvenation and authentic cultural connections.

Thailand is actively promoting its strengths in wellness tourism—ranging from luxurious spa retreats and holistic therapies to nature-based experiences and cultural immersions. By aligning its promotional strategies with these emerging preferences, Thailand seeks to attract travelers interested in spending more on exquisite and transformative experiences.

This initiative highlights a strategic move towards emphasizing quality over quantity in tourism. Rather than simply aiming for higher visitor numbers, Thailand is focusing on attracting high-value travelers from established and promising markets. This sustainable tourism model allows for longer stays and increased spending, generating greater economic benefits while lessening the environmental impact on popular destinations. Most importantly, this new approach fosters richer cultural exchanges, encouraging visitors to engage more deeply with local communities and traditions.

The 2026 Amazing Thailand Roadshow serves as a hallmark success for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, showcasing a substantial push to cement its footprint in the North American market. More importantly, it underscores a commitment to adapting to evolving traveler expectations. By reinforcing air connectivity, tailoring marketing strategies, and prioritizing wellness-driven travel experiences, Thailand is laying a strong foundation for a dynamic and resilient future in global tourism.

As Thailand navigates the ever-changing landscape of tourism, its innovative strategies will ensure it remains attractive and competitive among international travelers, sustained by both quality experiences and meaningful engagement.
