Ethiopia has embarked on a historic journey to redefine its aviation landscape with the construction of the Bishoftu International Airport. This ambitious development initiative, situated about 40 kilometers to the south of the capital city, Addis Ababa, represents an estimated investment of 12.5 billion US dollars and is on track to transform Ethiopian Airlines into a major global player in air transport.

Bishoftu International Airport’s design is unparalleled in Africa, featuring a projected initial operation capacity set to begin in 2030. This will include two parallel runways capable of accommodating around 60 million passengers annually—an impressive leap from the current capacity of Bole International Airport, which manages approximately 22 to 25 million travelers each year.
