A Perfect Blend of Heritage and Modern Elegance

Crafted by the acclaimed global hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the Maharaja Lounge reflects a design philosophy that resonates with Air India’s flagship lounge located in Delhi. This new lounge is part of a broader initiative featuring signature lounges planned in various locations worldwide, crafted to deliver consistent premium experiences across Air India’s extensive global network.

The space integrates modern luxury with traditional Indian motifs, utilizing a sophisticated palette of champagne, ivory, and deep red hues. Brand motifs such as the distinctive ‘Vista’ pattern decorate both walls and furniture. Artistic installations pay homage to regional heritages, with select elements creatively designed using upcycled aircraft materials, reinforcing an innovative connection to Air India’s storied past. Each design choice ensures that the lounge is as striking as it is subtly elegant, catering to the tastes of discerning global travelers.

Tailored Zones for Every Traveler’s Needs

Inside the Maharaja Lounge, various designated zones cater specifically to different passenger needs, each providing a tailored experience:

Aviator’s Bar: This bar takes inspiration from an elegant speakeasy, featuring aviation-themed décor and a carefully curated menu of wines, whiskies, and signature cocktails like the Maharaja Manhattan—a regal take on a classic drink. The ambiance encourages social interaction, offering a lively yet refined atmosphere for international travelers.

Tarmac View & Private Zone: Guests in the Private Zone and Business Class sections are treated to sweeping views of aircraft as they take off and land, creating a unique and immersive pre-flight experience. The Private Zone offers First Class passengers a serene retreat to unwind or catch up on work, reflecting Air India’s dedication to delivering exceptional comfort.

Social Zone: This area is designed to promote interaction among travelers while maintaining pockets of privacy. It provides an engaging space appropriate for casual conversations, making it perfect for both business networking and leisure moments.

Dining Area: The lounge boasts an expansive selection of Indian and international cuisine, featuring live cooking stations, lavish buffet islands, cold counters, and beverage setups. Guests can savor exquisite meals in a relaxed atmosphere that marries luxury dining with cultural experiences, ensuring satisfaction for every palate.

Setting New Standards in Passenger Experience

Campbell Wilson, CEO & Managing Director of Air India, underscored the significance of the lounge with these words: “The Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco builds upon the success of our Delhi flagship lounge, ushering in a new era of signature lounges for Air India. North America plays a crucial role in our operational strategy, and this development signifies our commitment to enhancing the standard of premium travel experiences worldwide.”

With a seating capacity for 80 guests, the lounge is exclusively available to First and Business Class passengers, as well as Platinum and Gold members of the Maharaja Club. By integrating cultural richness, modern luxury, and outstanding service, the Maharaja Lounge establishes a new paradigm for premium airport experiences in North America.

Tourism and Travel Impact

For international tourists and business professionals, the Maharaja Lounge offers more than just comfort; it serves as a portal to experience the warm hospitality of Indian culture. By enhancing the airport encounter, it positions San Francisco as an appealing gateway for passengers connecting to India and beyond. The exquisite mix of heritage design, modern luxury, and sweeping tarmac views solidifies Air India’s stature as a preferred choice among discerning global travelers.

This lounge also strengthens tourism connectivity, delivering a premium experience that aligns with the expectations of today’s travelers. It highlights Air India’s ongoing evolution into a world-class airline, dedicated to providing elevated experiences throughout its international routes.

Expected to open on May 23, 2026, the Maharaja Lounge at San Francisco International Airport promises a wealth of features, including immersive design, stunning tarmac views, bespoke dining options, and dedicated areas for First and Business Class travelers.
