Experience the Reimagined Luxury of Spokane’s Davenport Hotel

The legendary Davenport Hotel, a hallmark of sophistication and tradition in Spokane, has proudly introduced its beautifully redesigned guest rooms, marking a significant milestone in its extensive renovation project. This latest transformation pays tribute to the hotel’s illustrious history while also providing modern comforts that cater to today’s travelers. Following the successful launch of a contemporary Lobby Bar and Emporium in 2025, these newly revamped accommodations further solidify the Davenport’s role as a cherished symbol of Spokane’s rich heritage and a vibrant part of the Great American West.

“For over a century, the Davenport Hotel has been a gathering place in Spokane—be it for a delightful meal, a special celebration, or a calming getaway,” says Melissa Green, Vice President and Area Managing Director of Davenport Hotels. “Our renovations aim to honor the hotel’s thoughtful evolution while maintaining the beloved charm our guests have come to expect. Davenport Hotel: A Historic Jewel of Luxury and Innovation

The Davenport Hotel opened its doors in 1914, at a time when Spokane was rapidly establishing itself as a vital commercial hub in the Inland Northwest. Since its inception, the hotel has served as the city’s social and cultural epicenter, drawing in locals, business professionals, and travelers alike. Designed by the esteemed architect Kirtland Cutter, this groundbreaking establishment took cues from the grand hotels of Europe, seamlessly merging elegance with innovative advancements. It was also a pioneer in American hospitality, introducing features such as air conditioning, central vacuum systems, and elaborate accordion doors in its ballrooms, as well as a pipe organ. Over a hundred years later, the Davenport Hotel continues to thrive as a prominent icon of Spokane’s vibrant history, marrying its magnificent past with modern-day conveniences to meet the demands of today’s discerning guests.

Los Angeles-based design studio Bishop Pass has thoughtfully reimagined the hotel’s 284 guest rooms, crafting chic environments that honor the building’s rich architecture while incorporating a modern twist. The renovations follow a layered design philosophy, harmonizing historical elements with contemporary aesthetics, ensuring each room exudes a timeless yet welcoming ambiance. The incorporation of original wood furnishings, including various headboards and case pieces, enhances the rooms’ character, while design elements draw inspiration from the natural beauty of Spokane, inviting soft light and textures reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest landscape. Botanical textiles and delicate lilac tones pay tribute to Spokane’s moniker, the Lilac City, reflecting the area’s celebrated flowering culture. Decorative pillows echo patterns from historical hotel tapestries, accented with lush green tones that nod to the local ponderosa pine trees. Furthermore, lounge chairs have been designed to reinterpret the classic cabinetry chairs once popularized in the hotel during the 1940s, merging comfort with historical significance.

The initial phase of renovations commenced in 2024, concentrating on upgrading dining and social experiences within the hotel’s grand, Spanish-inspired lobby—affectionately referred to as “Spokane’s Living Room.” Featuring historical light posts and architectural details, the Lobby Bar is inspired by the hotel’s Prohibition-era roots, offering an exquisite selection of craft cocktails and refined small plates in a stylish and approachable setting. Guests can indulge in a signature extra-dirty Martini, garnished with hand-stuffed blue cheese olives—an emblem of timeless sophistication. Complementing the bar, the Emporium—a café and specialty retail space—boasts a custom marble counter where visitors can witness live manufacturing of the famed Davenport Soft Peanut Brittle, crafted daily by the hotel’s dedicated confectionery team.

Beyond the guest rooms and central lobby, the Davenport Hotel’s enhancements are part of a larger evolution across the Davenport Hotels portfolio. The Davenport Tower has been refreshed to echo the developer’s adventures in Africa, introducing botanical and grass-inspired designs, caned textures, and layered neutral tones that subtly allude to the Serengeti. This design philosophy continues to weave the historic charm with modern sophistication, resulting in a holistic yet unique hospitality experience. Nearby, the boutique hotel The Louie opened its doors in 2025, featuring 48 rooms inspired by the original residence of Louis Davenport, which predated the flagship hotel’s construction. The Louie adds a cozy, residential feel to the city’s luxury hospitality landscape, bridging historical context with contemporary boutique allure.

Together, the three Davenport properties create a cohesive yet distinctive hospitality ecosystem in downtown Spokane. The Davenport Hotel remains at the heart of this evolution, its legacy of innovation and elegance still defining the city’s social and cultural landscape. By integrating a century-old architectural heritage with modern design, luxurious guest accommodations, and interactive culinary experiences, the hotel not only safeguards its historic essence but also enriches it for today’s travelers, offering a blend of comfort and connection in a stunning environment. As Spokane visitors step into the newly revitalized Davenport Hotel, they will discover the perfect marriage of tradition, innovation, and unmatched hospitality—all enveloped within one iconic establishment.
