Journey from Factory to Fleet

Prior to its operational service, the ATR72-600 embarked on an extensive multi-stage ferry flight from its manufacturing base. Between May 11 and May 15, 2026, the aircraft, equipped with advanced Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT-M engines, made its way from Toulouse Francazal to Kuala Lumpur Subang. The ferry flight included essential technical stops at key international airports, ensuring a safe journey. Starting from Cairo International Airport, the aircraft made additional stops in Jeddah, Nairobi, Mahé, and Malé before arriving in Malaysia after a well-coordinated transit.

Regulatory Endorsements and Design Certification

Before the ferry flight, the innovative HighLine cabin received regulatory approvals, enabling a seamless introduction into service. The airworthiness and design certifications were granted by both the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and Malaysian authorities in early May, affirming strict adherence to safety protocols and design integrity. These regulatory measures paved the way for immediate commercial integration, reflecting a commitment to quality and safety.

Leadership Insights on Innovative Developments

Leadership within ATR has recognized the strategic advantages of the HighLine cabin. CEO Nathalie Tarnaud Laude emphasized how this new cabin collection creates opportunities for airlines seeking exceptional passenger experiences while benefiting from operational efficiencies. The HighLine design enables the integration of luxury with environmental consideration, showcasing how regional turboprops can function effectively in high-end corporate and leisure travel markets.

Strategic Route Expansion Plans

Berjaya Air has unveiled a comprehensive strategy for the deployment of its new VIP-configured ATR. The aircraft will initiate its service by connecting Kuala Lumpur Subang with the idyllic resort island of Koh Samui, a prime destination for luxury travelers. This inaugural route serves as an ideal testing ground for the 26-seat premium offering before expanding further into premium markets. Following the establishment of the Koh Samui route, plans are in place to gradually extend services to high-end destinations throughout Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, fortifying its position in the upscale travel segment.

Commitment to Hospitality Excellence

The integration of the HighLine platform aligns seamlessly with the hospitality values upheld by Berjaya Group. CEO Syed Ali Shahul Hameed articulated the commitment to delivering a comprehensive premium travel experience, from check-in to arrival. This approach reflects the organization’s dedication to superior service and ensures that every journey is characterized by comfort and luxury.

Fleet Expansion and Future Vision

The arrival of the ATR72-600 signifies a significant escalation in Berjaya Air’s operational capabilities. Currently, the airline operates a diverse fleet that includes an ATR42-500 and an ATR72-500, along with a Global 5000 business jet. The ongoing fleet expansion includes another similarly configured ATR72-600 set to join the fleet in the third quarter of 2026, further enhancing service reliability and premium charter options across Southeast Asia.

With these advancements, Berjaya Air is poised to transform the regional travel landscape, offering unmatched luxury and convenience to its clientele.
