Governments across Southeast Asia have unveiled ambitious plans for improved air connectivity through formal agreements. In a noteworthy partnership, a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2025 between Vietjet and Laos commits to creating sustainable air transport links, generating approximately 2,500 new jobs, and introducing a direct connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane. This agreement is a continuation of a broader cooperation framework established for 2016-2025.

To support the influx of new routes, substantial upgrades are taking place at airports throughout the region. Under the partnership with Vietjet, a new maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility will soon be established in Laos, creating numerous skilled job opportunities and fostering local expertise in aircraft servicing.
Myanmar is also taking steps to enhance its airport infrastructure, specifically at Myeik airport, paving the way for increased international cargo traffic. Meanwhile, Cambodia is updating its major airports to support rising passenger numbers, having served over 3 million travelers in the first part of 2025 alone.
