Trip.com Group Envision 2026: Shaping the Future of Inbound Travel to China

The future of global tourism shines brightly as industry leaders gather for the annual Envision Global Partner Conference in Shanghai. This influential event welcomed 3,500 guests from 78 countries, fostering collaboration among tourism boards, airline executives, hotel partners, digital creators, and travel industry leaders. Together, they discussed strategies to harness emerging opportunities in travel, reflecting a robust confidence in the resilience of the international tourism landscape.

Significantly, Trip.com Group’s Envision 2026 initiative is set to redefine the global travel service provider environment. With a commitment to promoting inbound travel to China, the initiative shines a light on innovative travel products and awards for tourism innovation. Looking at Tourism Recovery and Growth

During the conference, compelling statistics demonstrated the impressive resurgence of global tourism. Notably, tourism accounted for 10% of the global GDP, reaching a historic USD 11.6 trillion in 2025, solidifying its status as the fastest-growing sector globally—growing at more than double the rate of the overall economy. Trip.com Group reported a remarkable 60% year-on-year increase in overall bookings on its international OTA platform in 2025, with outbound flight and accommodation bookings surpassing their 2019 figures by 140%. This strong growth reflects an extensive demand for travel, spurred particularly by Asia’s economic vigor and accelerated developments in Europe and the Americas.

Key Trends in Global Travel

The evolution of international travel is being guided by three main trends, recognized as the “3 Ds.” The first, Discovery, highlights the rise of lesser-known destinations capturing travelers’ imaginations—countries like Uzbekistan, Argentina, and Colombia have become fast favorites. The second pillar, Diversity, showcases the broad range of experiences travelers are now pursuing, such as deep-sea diving in Bali and cultural tours in historical cities like Giza and Istanbul.

Lastly, the trend known as Journeys in Depth emphasizes longer stays that allow travelers to immerse themselves in local cultures. This shift toward in-depth engagements is evident, with 15 of the top 20 fastest-growing itineraries reflecting longer multi-leg journeys, averaging six days in length across various regions. By investing in personalized services, the travel sector is meeting evolving consumer demands while encouraging sustainable growth within communities.

Empowering the Future with Innovations

A highlight of the conference was the presentation of the second annual Trip.com Group Tourism Innovation Awards, recognizing ten standout global initiatives across diverse categories such as architecture, resorts, and cultural attractions. Each awardee received a share of the USD 100 million Tourism Innovation Fund, with individual grants highlighting exceptional contributions to the industry, such as the Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, which sets a new standard in theme park technology.

Enhancing Operations with Digital Solutions

Trip.com Group is also making significant strides in digital transformation. Upgrades include enhanced flight logistics with online check-in services and AI-driven market intelligence tools. The hospitality sector benefits from smart personalization techniques, resulting in thousands of additional room bookings daily. Moreover, the company is advancing rail travel cross-selling through a multi-modal platform in collaboration with major European rail providers.

In its corporate travel division, automated AI agents handle requests with impressive accuracy, while community engagement efforts leverage AI to link merchants with digital content creators, turning inspiration into customer demand.

Expanding Partnerships and Infrastructure

Trip.com Group is broadening its global presence by establishing new regional offices and forming strategic alliances, including a partnership with Tourism Tasmania to enhance global visibility for Tasmanian tourism and a collaboration with Visa to streamline payment experiences across Asia Pacific.

Boosting Inbound Tourism to China

Interest in China as a travel destination continues to surge, with over 20 million inbound travelers reported in 2025. The company is committed to improving regional tourism infrastructure, ensuring seamless experiences for international visitors through language-ready support and user-friendly itineraries. The Free City Tours initiative has successfully welcomed thousands of international guests, providing them with organized sightseeing options during layovers in cities like Shanghai and Beijing.

A Cultural Invitation for Global Explorers

Jackie Chan, the Global Ambassador for China Travel at Trip.com Group, emphasized cultural richness in a video message during the conference, inviting travelers to explore the depth and diversity of China’s heritage. As international delegates conclude the conference and head to picturesque Guilin, Trip.com’s strategy for the coming years focuses on AI-enhanced consumer insights, blending technology with human expertise to ensure reliable services. With a commitment to operational integrity and customer trust, the travel sector is stepping into a connected and credible future.
