Travel enthusiasts expecting new direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Bucharest will have to wait longer than anticipated. Etihad Airways has officially announced a delay in the launch of its much-anticipated Bucharest service, resulting in a new departure date of December 17, 2026. This decision coincides with Airbus’s ongoing advancements in luxury aviation, particularly its innovative A350-1000 “First Class Experience” project.
Initially slated to commence operations on August 17, 2026, the planned nonstop service from Abu Dhabi to Romania’s capital has been postponed. The route will be operated by Airbus A321 aircraft, featuring four weekly flights, ultimately enhancing connectivity between Eastern Europe and Etihad’s extensive global network through its Abu Dhabi hub.

While the exact reason for this adjustment was not disclosed by the airline, industry experts suggest that various factors, including aircraft delivery timelines and operational planning complexities, may have contributed to the revised schedule.
In addition to the Bucharest delay, Etihad has also removed its previously announced route to Tbilisi from its future flight schedule. This service was intended to launch with eight weekly flights starting in August 2026 but has since been taken off the airline’s expansion plans. As of now, there is no alternative timeline for Tbilisi’s launch.
Notwithstanding the postponement, Bucharest remains a key player in Etihad’s European strategy.
