The Shah Alam Line expansion will introduce five new stations: Tropicana, Raja Muda, Temasya, Bukit Raja, and Bandar Botanik. Each station has been thoughtfully located to heighten accessibility within the bustling residential and commercial zones of Klang Valley.

By incorporating these new stations into the existing 37.8km route, which already encompasses 20 stations, the initiative aims to significantly improve connectivity across suburban and urban districts. The expanded LRT network is designed to accommodate increased commuter traffic and improve last-mile connectivity, making public transportation a viable option for daily commuting needs across the Klang Valley.

Currently, the Shah Alam Line operates with 22 train sets, each capable of carrying up to 624 passengers. With service intervals of eight minutes during peak hours and ten minutes during off-peak times, the system has been attuned to meet escalating demand patterns.

The introduction of additional train sets is expected to further enhance service frequency, thus taking a significant step towards reducing passenger wait times and boosting commuter convenience. Anticipated ridership levels are projected to reach approximately 60,000 on an average day during the first operational year, demonstrating robust demand for this expanded transport network.

Authorities stress that land adjacent to rail stations should be optimally utilized, encouraging developments that align with transport infrastructure. This strategic approach is designed to maximize economic benefits while incentivizing residents to opt for living closer to public transport networks.

Plans for TOD projects are being orchestrated in partnership with private developers and government-linked entities, ensuring efficient use of government-owned land while keeping sustainability and affordability front of mind.

Identifying Key Redevelopment Opportunities

The area surrounding the Sri Andalas station has been highlighted as a prime redevelopment opportunity. A substantial park-and-ride facility with 500 bays occupies valuable real estate, which could be transformed into a mixed-use zone supporting affordable housing initiatives.

Redeveloping such strategic locations is seen as a way to generate revenue for transport operators, while simultaneously facilitating urban development and granting communities improved access to rail services.

Additional opportunities have been identified in areas such as Kayu Ara, Johan Setia, and Bandar Bukit Tinggi, where expansive surface-level parking facilities exist. These sites are under evaluation for possible transformation into integrated projects combining residential, commercial, and transport elements.

Commitment to Sustainable Urban Mobility

A key long-term policy initiative promotes urban residents’ tendency to live near transport hubs, thereby enhancing dependence on rail commuting. This strategy aims to lessen traffic congestion, improve environmental sustainability, and elevate the overall quality of urban life.
