Proceeds from the auction are directed towards the Bayside Council’s Community Learn to Swim and Water Safety Program, which provides free swimming lessons to families facing financial hardships. Sydney Airport has set a target to raise around $200,000, which is anticipated to fund more than 8,000 swimming lessons, greatly benefiting the local community.

Since its inception in 2013, the annual auctions hosted by Sydney Airport have been fruitful, generating an impressive $2.2 million for various community and charitable programs across Australia.

A Rich Array of Auction Items

The 2026 Sydney Airport Auction boasts a diverse inventory that reflects the vast foot traffic the airport experiences each year. Among the intriguing items up for grabs are 120 laptops, 350 pieces of jewellery and watches, and approximately 150 designer sunglasses. This eclectic mix showcases the wide-ranging belongings that travelers leave behind in the hustle and bustle of airport life.

Beyond electronics and accessories, the auction will feature 100 bags and about 60 bottles of alcohol. The assortment of goods is a striking reminder of the personal belongings often forgotten during travel, making this auction not just a shopping opportunity but a chance to rediscover lost treasures.

Adding an element of fun and curiosity to the auction, some unique items such as ski boots, boxing gloves, a wedding dress, and even a Batman Lego set have also made their way onto the auction block. In the previous year, more than 6,000 items were successfully retrieved and returned to their rightful owners, showcasing the effectiveness of the airport’s recovery efforts. Items that remain unclaimed after a designated time frame are either donated to charity or included in the annual auction.

Details of the Auction Process

The 2026 Sydney Airport Auction is scheduled as a series of five timed online sales, with participants required to register ahead of bidding. Registration is facilitated through the auction platform, allowing bidders to engage in multiple sales under a single account.

Bidders gained access to the auction catalog on June 28, enabling them to inspect the lots and assess their conditions via detailed images. Each lot is set to close at specific intervals of 30 seconds, creating an exciting dynamic as participants vie for their desired items.

To ensure a fair bidding process, a unique extension system has been introduced: if anyone places a bid within the last 30 seconds of a lot’s closing, the auction time for that lot extends an additional five minutes, allowing for last-minute competition.

Once the auction concludes, items can either be shipped to buyers or collected by appointment from a specified collection point at 118 Parramatta Road, NSW. The auction is set to run from July 6 to July 8.

This structured auction not only facilitates asset recovery but also significantly benefits the local community by channeling funds into important educational programs.
