With the global awareness surrounding the nutritional benefits of Drumstick Moringa growing, including demand for both its culinary uses and health properties, this product was strategically included in the consignment. Although the initial shipment was just 1.79 tonnes, it represents a larger milestone in establishing a viable export channel that can effectively connect western India to one of the Gulf’s major commercial markets. This new route opens opportunities for farmers, exporters, and regional businesses, enabling them to broaden their market reach.
Transported via a Boeing 737-8 aircraft, the initial cargo is an essential component of the Navi Mumbai–Abu Dhabi route, which offers approximately 2.5 tonnes of cargo capacity in the belly-hold of the aircraft. This facility is invaluable for transporting perishables and goods requiring expedited delivery.
Currently, three weekly flights are operational on this route, ensuring that passengers and exporters have consistent access. As the service matures, Air India Cargo anticipates moving around 25 tonnes of cargo monthly. This dual-use of aircraft for passenger and cargo is a strategic approach that benefits the broader travel market, optimizing both passenger and commercial interests.

At the airport, specialized temperature-controlled facilities range from 15°C to 25°C, ensuring products are loaded promptly without compromising their quality.

To further bolster this logistics chain, Air India Cargo utilizes specialized cold chain equipment, including cool dollies and thermal blankets, maintaining a constant temperature during the transportation process. This strategic approach upholds quality control requirements throughout the entire shipment journey, ensuring valuable produce reaches its overseas markets in optimal condition.
While air cargo often goes unnoticed by passengers, it plays a critical role in enhancing the economic viability of international flights.
