Da Nang International Airport, the main entry point for travelers heading to central Vietnam, has embarked on a significant renovation of its international passenger Terminal T2. With an impressive investment of VND1.5 trillion, this ambitious project aims to increase capacity and improve the overall travel experience for millions of visitors. Originally designed to accommodate around four million passengers annually, Terminal T2 has faced significant overcrowding challenges. In 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, it facilitated over 7.1 million travelers, exceeding its designed capacity by nearly 80%. The trend continued post-pandemic, with approximately 6.18 million passengers recorded in 2024 and 6.81 million in 2025. This sustained uptick in demand has necessitated this crucial expansion to preserve the quality of service and enhance passenger experience.

The upcoming Terminal T2 expansion will add around 3,600 square meters to the existing terminal, raising its total usable area to over 21,000 square meters. Once finalized, this upgrade will enable the terminal to manage around six million passengers annually, significantly alleviating congestion and optimizing operational processes. The expansion aims to streamline passenger transitions, allowing for quicker check-in times and more comfortable waiting experiences for travelers.
Alongside the additional space, the expansion will modernize passenger amenities considerably. The number of check-in counters will increase from 54 to 85, while boarding gates featuring passenger bridges will expand from four to seven, reducing the need for shuttle bus transport. Furthermore, enhancements to baggage handling systems will double the outbound conveyor capacity and boost efficiency in managing incoming luggage, further easing passenger flow.
Beyond function, Terminal T2’s design embraces its signature “seagull wings” architecture while introducing elements of biophilia, such as natural light, greenery, and improved ventilation. These advancements will foster a soothing, inviting environment for passengers, ensuring both leisure travelers and business professionals feel at home.
