In a significant move to cater to the anticipated surge in passenger traffic for the IPL 2026 final, the Western Railway has unveiled plans for four new special trains connecting the bustling cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad. This initiative aims to streamline travel for fans eager to witness the exciting face-off between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) scheduled for May 31 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. Although railway officials emphasize that these operations are not officially endorsed by the IPL, the enhanced service is clearly timed to address the extensive travel demand historically associated with major events hosted at this premier venue.
To accommodate the influx of sports enthusiasts and travelers, the railway has divided its operational strategy into two pairs of services, each tailored to maintain efficient logistic support without disrupting regular commuter patterns. The primary goal of these enhancements is to alleviate overcrowding on traditional long-distance routes, providing a more organized and comfortable journey for the public.

The first set of services will include premium air-conditioned trains designed for a swift transit between essential hubs. This premium service consists of Train No. 09021, dubbed the Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad AC Superfast Special, along with its return counterpart, Train No. 09022, the Ahmedabad–Mumbai Central AC Superfast Special.
According to the schedule released, Train No. 09021 will depart the historic Mumbai Central station at precisely 6:20 am on May 31, ensuring a timely arrival in Ahmedabad at 12:40 pm the same day. This allows fans ample time to prepare for the evening match and soak in the vibrant atmosphere.
For those returning to Mumbai, Train No. 09022 is set to leave Ahmedabad at 3:10 pm, with an expected arrival back at Mumbai Central by 9:45 pm. To ensure connections with urban centers along the golden quadrilateral corridor, this service will pause at key stops including Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Bharuch, and Vadodara in both directions. Featuring high-comfort travel options, the train will accommodate AC Executive Chair Cars, AC Chair Cars, and modern Anubhuti coaches for a premium travel experience.
In addition to the daytime services, a second set of superfast trains is being introduced to provide overnight travel options and alternative flexibility for commuters. This schedule includes Train No. 09043 traveling from Bandra Terminus to Vatva, and Train No. 09044 serving as the return trip back to Bandra Terminus.
Train No. 09043 is scheduled to depart from Bandra Terminus at 11:45 pm on June 1 and make its way overnight to Vatva, with an estimated arrival at 8:00 am on June 2. In contrast, Train No. 09044 will depart from Ahmedabad at 3:50 am on June 1, aiming for a timely return to Bandra Terminus by 12:15 pm.
Both trains will feature a carefully planned stopping pattern to maximize regional connectivity. Passengers can expect service at Borivali, Palghar, Vapi, and Vadodara in both directions, along with specialized stops unique to each service. Train No. 09043 will make additional halts at Udhna, Anand, and Nadiad, while Train No. 09044 will stop at industrial hubs including Bharuch and Surat.
The Western Railway has ensured that ticketing for these special services will be as convenient as possible. Ticket sales are set to commence from May 30, with reservations available through multiple official channels. Travelers can purchase tickets at reservation counters or online via the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and app.
Passengers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the special fare structures associated with these event-driven services and to verify all operational details, including platform assignments and real-time train tracking. Utilizing the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or official information kiosks at boarding stations will provide the most up-to-date information for a seamless travel experience. As IPL 2026 approaches, these enhanced rail services are set to offer a timely solution to meet the expected travel demands.
