Royal Caribbean’s Legend of the Seas is set to embark on a cultural journey as it opens its doors for the summer season in Europe starting July 2026. This isn’t just any cruise experience; it is a chance to immerse oneself in a floating gallery that comes alive with the talents of emerging artists from a diverse range of Caribbean and Central American cultural backgrounds. Departing from vibrant ports like Barcelona and Rome, passengers can expect an extraordinary atmosphere that layers artistry into their travel experiences.
With the launch of its enhanced Artist Discovery Program on the Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean seeks to showcase the works of six burgeoning artists hailing from the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America. This initiative not only provides these local creatives with a broader platform but also integrates rich cultural narratives right into the cruise experience. Guests won’t merely be voyaging to new destinations; they will begin their journey immersed in the culture before setting sail.

Time and again, cruise lines are evolving beyond traditional entertainment and dining, demonstrating how art is becoming an integral component of the travel adventure. This initiative enhances passenger engagement by tying their onboard experience to the multi-faceted destinations they will explore.
Out of a remarkable 250 applications received for the project, six incredibly talented artists were carefully chosen to tell their stories through art. Each artist submitted personal insights, career experiences, and original proposals that highlight the beauty and culture of their respective homelands.
The selected artists will showcase their work in distinct areas throughout the ship, including the embarkation space, Royal Promenade, Suite Sundeck, Suite Sundeck Lobby, entrance to the Royal Promenade on deck six, and the guest boarding area on deck two. The commissioned artworks will consist of eye-catching murals, a stunning ceramic mosaic sculpture, and a striking stainless-steel piece, providing varied narrative experiences as guests traverse the ship.
Families might discover a bold mural upon entering the Royal Promenade, while suite guests could be mesmerized by the intricate textures of ceramic art. Returning passengers from port visits may be greeted by artwork that speaks to the rich cultural tapestry of Caribbean heritage.
Among the chosen artists, Giovanni Abath from Curacao will create an engaging mural and a stainless-steel structure for the Royal Promenade entrance. His artistic vision marries industrial elements with vivid reflections of Caribbean landscapes and personal stories.
Vanessa Dalla Costa, representing Trinidad and Tobago, will design a ceramic mosaic sculpture for the Suite Sundeck, incorporating natural materials and vibrant details that imbue the outdoor space with warmth.
Porschia Denning from the U.S. Virgin Islands will add her unique touch to the Suite Sundeck Lobby with a custom mural inspired by the harmony of nature and vibrant island rhythms, using materials like acrylic, oil, stone, and copper.
Puerto Rican artist Rafeal Vega Feliciano will dominate the deck two boarding area with a mural that draws from ancestral symbolism and the rich history of Puerto Rico and its neighboring Caribbean islands.
Rodrigo Macias Maldonado from Mexico will express his artistic voice in a large mural situated within the Royal Promenade, exploring themes of geometry and resilience beyond the built environment.
Lastly, Alexander Lopez Ryliouk from Costa Rica aims to leave a dramatic impression on guests with a large mural in the embarkation area, setting the tone for the cultural immersion onboard.
The Legend of the Seas will make its European debut in July 2026, offering seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises from iconic destinations like Barcelona and Civitavecchia near Rome. Following this, the ship will transition to Fort Lauderdale in November for an enticing array of six-night Western Caribbean cruises, as well as eight-night itineraries through the Southern Caribbean.
Notable destinations on the Caribbean routes will include Roatan in Honduras and Willemstad in Curacao, allowing passengers to enjoy not only the art onboard but also the culture found on land. Guests may encounter familiar Curacao-inspired artworks while cruising, only to step off the ship in a place that resonates strongly with the artistic themes they have experienced at sea.
Royal Caribbean is concurrently pushing this ship-to-shore artistic experience at the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas, where eleven Bahamian artists will present their works at twenty-five locations within the all-inclusive beach club environment.
Positioned as a family-friendly cruise option, Legend of the Seas boasts eight distinct neighborhoods, a multitude of dining options, thrilling activities, and relaxation zones. Royal Caribbean has branded it as part of their Icon Class, emphasizing features like seven pools, ten whirlpools, and an expansive water park at sea.
However, it is this innovative art program that adds a unique allure to the ship. It provides not only a sense of identity but also creates a feeling of connection to the diverse cultures represented on board. This unique fusion of art and travel allows emerging artists to reach audiences on a global scale, far surpassing what many galleries can offer.
For travelers, this journey takes on a personal dimension. While the fast-paced nature of cruising allows for many ports to come and go and numerous photos to fill smartphones, the presence of art has the power to slow down time, inviting passengers to pause and appreciate the cultural narratives available to them. The Legend of the Seas is redefining how we experience travel, turning everyday moments into profound cultural encounters.
