Someshwara Beach is renowned for its breathtaking geography, where the Sumanavathi River, also referred to as the Byndoor River, converges with the Arabian Sea. This striking delta landscape, characterized by its shallow waters, has long attracted both locals and travelers seeking safe swimming conditions.

Adjacent to the renowned Someshwara Temple, visitors will discover a site rich in cultural history. The temple, along with a traditional kalyani (sacred pond), not only adds spiritual depth but also enhances the beach’s appeal as a combined cultural and eco-tourism spot in Karnataka.
Launched in 2023, the KTIL project focuses on creating a structured tourist infrastructure to cater to the increasing visitor numbers. One of the project’s significant challenges was the limited availability of government land; therefore, roughly 2.7 acres of additional shoreline land were acquired to facilitate comprehensive infrastructure development.
The initial phase introduced a critical 300-metre concrete embankment wall near Someshwara Temple, effectively protecting the shoreline from erosion. This essential coastal protection measure safeguards both cultural and public domains from potential damage related to sea conditions.
In addition to the protective work, the project incorporates crucial visitor facilities like stormwater drainage systems, reinforced walkways, public seating areas, viewing spots, lighting, restroom facilities, bathing areas, and organized parking spaces—all designed to enhance visitor safety and comfort, paving the way for sustainable tourism growth.
The most exciting feature of the beach’s revitalization will be the new public promenade with walkways and pedestrian paths. These enhancements enable visitors to explore the coastline safely, while conveniently placed seating galleries allow for relaxation and enjoyment of the stunning sea views. The addition of modern lighting systems extends evening usability, making Someshwara Beach an inviting destination even after sunset.
The provisions for separate restroom and bathing facilities for men and women highlight an inclusive approach towards tourism infrastructure, aligning with state-level aims for tourism development in Karnataka.
