Starting this summer, Air Algérie will begin a groundbreaking service connecting Manchester Airport directly with Algiers, marking an exciting new chapter in travel options for northern England. The airline’s introduction of twice-weekly seasonal flights is set to enhance connectivity to Africa, appealing to both tourists and the local Algerian community.
From June 14 to September 8, 2026, Air Algérie will operate nonstop flights between Manchester Airport and Algiers every Tuesday and Sunday, utilizing the efficient Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This new route makes Manchester the only airport in the U.K. outside of London to offer direct flights to Algiers, significantly improving accessibility between northern England and the vibrant capital of Algeria.
The introduction of this route not only boosts Manchester’s position as an emerging international hub but also further expands its network offering over 60 countries with nonstop flights. Air Algérie joins the ranks of other Africa-based airlines such as Royal Air Maroc, EgyptAir, and Ethiopian Airlines, enhancing the city’s appeal as a gateway to the continent.
This new air link is vital, contributing significantly to regional tourism and serving the local Algerian community. Algiers, a city famed for its stunning beaches, lush gardens, and rich history, is not just a prime holiday destination; it also acts as a major transit hub, facilitating onward connections to key African cities including Johannesburg, Abuja, and Dakar.
Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport, shared his enthusiasm for this significant partnership with Air Algérie, emphasizing how it will benefit the local African diaspora. He stated, “Connecting the North to the world is our mission, and our collaboration with Air Algérie exemplifies that commitment. This new route not only opens a fantastic holiday destination, but it also binds African communities in the North to their friends and families back home.”
The route from Manchester to Algiers is especially meaningful for the Algerian diaspora residing in the U.K., particularly in the northern regions. This direct flight enables easier travel to Algeria and facilitates connections with additional significant African destinations. Air Algérie’s service aims to strengthen ties between the U.K. and Africa, making travel more accessible for business, tourism, and family reunification.
According to Madjid Terghini, General Manager for the U.K. and Ireland at Air Algérie, the new route supports the airline’s vision by enhancing connectivity between Algeria and pivotal global markets. “This route not only matters to the Algerian community but also solidifies our efforts to ensure seamless connections between Algeria and the world,” Terghini noted.
This launch is part of Air Algérie’s broader strategy to expand its international reach. Currently, the airline offers service from Algiers to both London Heathrow and London Stansted, and adding Manchester will increase total U.K. flights to 14 per week during the summer of 2026.
Beyond the U.K., Air Algérie is concentrating on expanding across Africa and Asia, with plans for new routes to cities including Libreville, Luanda, and Accra, as well as international destinations like Shanghai and Warsaw. The airline aims to transport nearly 10 million passengers in 2026 and to connect to at least 20 African destinations by 2028, highlighting its ambitious growth targets.
To kick off the Manchester-Algiers flights, Air Algérie will employ its existing fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline has placed orders for 10 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, set for delivery in July 2026. The introduction of these modern jets will enhance fuel efficiency, reduce operating costs, and ensure a comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Securing these new international routes showcases Manchester Airport’s rising profile within the global aviation arena. The addition of Air Algérie’s services bolsters the airport’s reputation and further diversifies its offerings, making it a competitive alternative to London airports for travelers seeking direct flights.
As Manchester Airport continues to expand its international services, it aims to attract more business and leisure travelers, strengthening economic ties between the U.K. and Africa.
Algiers is quickly gaining recognition as a unique travel destination that marries history, culture, and natural beauty. Its Mediterranean climate, along with picturesque beaches, botanical gardens, and notable cultural landmarks, provide plenty of exploration opportunities. Tourists can stroll through the historic Casbah of Algiers, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or unwind on the beautiful Mediterranean beaches.
The country is also celebrated for its diverse gastronomy, reflecting a blend of influences from Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Algeria’s varied landscapes—from the vast Sahara Desert to the stunning coast—offer rich experiences, including hiking, off-roading, and cultural immersion.
This burgeoning tourism potential will only be amplified with the introduction of the new Manchester route by Air Algérie.
The launch of Air Algérie’s seasonal flights connecting Manchester to Algiers signifies more than just new travel options; it symbolizes deeper cultural and economic connections between the U.K. and Algeria. With direct access now established between northern England and Algeria, this route enhances trade, tourism, and community ties.
As Air Algérie furthers its expansion strategy, including new routes and modernized aircraft, it positions itself as a critical player in both African and global travel. For northern England travelers, this new connection opens doors to explore Algeria and strengthen bonds with loved ones, heralding a positive future for both Manchester Airport and Air Algérie in fostering seamless international connectivity.
