Anayirankal dam is not located at the center of woods, says KHTC

The Kerala Hydel Tourism Center, the hydel tourism division under the management of Kerala State Electricity Board, has recently presented an official declaration where they have dismissed the finding that the Anayirankal dam is located at the center of the woods.

On July 14 th , the hydel tourism arm closed their boat rides in the dam after getting a directive from the Kerala High Court. The HC selected an expert panel committee that said that boat rides are disturbing the wild elephants.

The court on Monday will think on this case, according to the officials. In the official declaration, Mr. Narendra Nath Veluri, the KHTC director, explained that he had experienced this while working as a Divisional Forest
Officer for almost eight years dealing with elephant and human clash in North Wayanad Division.

The boating area in Anayirankal is situated next to the local areas called ‘Layam’ or bunch houses. Jeeps, buses, and several other vehicles go by this
area. From the Anayirankal tourism centre, the Kochi-Dhanushkodi National Highway is 600 meters away, said the affidavit.

The site of the boating facility is bounded by Anayirankal Tea Plantation, tea plantations of Harrisons Malayalam Limited and other private land areas, it said.
