As summer approaches, Fire Island’s iconic Pines district is gearing up for an unforgettable season. Tryst Hospitality has announced an exciting lineup of programming across various waterfront venues, kicking off early May 2026. This year marks a significant milestone for the LGBTQ+ destination, celebrating 60 years since the beloved tea dance tradition emerged at The Blue Whale in 1966.
The highly anticipated Waterfront complex will officially open in two phases for visitors. Limited services will begin on Friday, May 8, featuring The Blue Whale restaurant, gym amenities, and the first session of afternoon tea programming. The following weekend, starting May 15, all venues, including the ever-popular Pavilion nightclub and The Tryst Pool Club, will kick off full operations. Guests will be able to make dinner reservations, access pool services, and enjoy the season’s first drag brunch.
For those looking to celebrate Memorial Day weekend, the Pines will be in full swing, offering a diverse lineup of daily programming across dining, entertainment, and recreational activities.
This summer, guests can enjoy a structured experience with daily programming tailored to the beachfront resort atmosphere. The Tryst Pool Club will be the centerpiece of afternoon activities, operating daily from 11 AM to 6 PM, complete with energetic pool parties featuring rotating DJs from Friday through Sunday. Attendees can also indulge in low tea sessions at The Blue Whale from 4 PM to 8 PM, transitioning into dinner service at 8 PM (reservations recommended).
Evenings will come alive at Pavilion with high tea dancing from 7 PM until 10 PM every night. Weekend mornings will feature fabulous drag brunch performances on Saturdays and Sundays at noon. Specialty programming throughout the week includes Sunday showtunes, Monday night variety shows, Wednesday drag bingo, and lively piano bar sessions each Friday.
This year’s festivities hold special meaning as Fire Island Pines honors six decades of tea dance culture initiated by venue owner John Whyte in 1966. Originally conceived as a gathering for LGBTQ+ community members during a time of limited social acceptance, the tradition has blossomed into a globally recognized cultural moment, with the Pines retaining the title of its most iconic location.
The legacy continues with daily tea programming, offering both low and high tea sessions that celebrate this rich history, which has notably influenced LGBTQ+ gathering spaces around the world.
Travelers should also anticipate peak weekends with enhanced programming. The Fourth of July weekend will be enhanced by the annual Invasion of the Pines celebration, featuring extended pool parties with acclaimed drag artists and musical guests. The Pines is expected to attract maximum crowds during this busy Independence Day weekend.
Other signature events include the exciting Hot Tub Games featuring popular reality television personalities and the Doll Invasion weekend, both promising special guest appearances and extended venue hours. Details about these events will be shared via social media channels leading up to the happenings.
The 2026 season will also see improvements in infrastructure, including renovated restrooms and new weather protection features at The Blue Whale. A state-of-the-art fitness center will be open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, ensuring guests can keep up with their workout regimes while on vacation.
Additionally, bright pink golf cart services will be available to provide transportation across the Pines community, eliminating the need for long walks on the boardwalk between accommodations and venues. More details regarding transportation bookings will be announced via digital platforms.
The musical experience for summer 2026 will comprise a mix of resident DJs alongside visiting performers from Tryst Hospitality’s various locations, such as West Hollywood’s The Abbey and Provincetown’s Crown & Anchor. Popular Fire Island DJs, including Lina Bradford and Susan Morabito, will return for their signature residencies, contributing to the destination’s rich musical tapestry.
New weekly programming will be introduced, featuring Middle Tea sessions on Fridays and Saturdays at 6 PM, along with Playback Thursdays at Pavilion for those who love pop music dance nights. Weekend takeovers by established party brands will electrify the summer calendar.
As for accommodation options, the planned Tryst Fire Island hotel is still in the works as the hospitality group navigates local approval processes. While the hotel won’t be ready for the 2026 season, enhancements to existing venues will improve guest experiences during this interim period.
While the new hotel is being developed, visitors can also explore other properties from Tryst Hospitality located in Puerto Vallarta, San Juan, Provincetown, Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, and Wilton Manors.
