Amman’s Aviation Scene Soars: Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Royal Jordanian Reboot Routes for 2026

In an era of transformative change for the aviation industry, Jordan is preparing for a major flight network expansion in 2026. Major players such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Royal Jordanian are set to bolster connectivity, with significant expansions planned at Queen Alia International Airport and a specific focus on the rejuvenation of routes connecting Jordan with key European cities.

From August through December 2026, the landscape of Jordanian aviation will undergo a substantial reshaping, aligned with the upcoming winter aviation season starting 25 October 2026. This ambitious network overhaul has the potential to rekindle travel excitement and lay the groundwork for robust tourism, marking one of the most significant recoveries in recent history.

The revival is spearheaded by low-cost airlines as they return to the region, combined with the strategic expansion of Royal Jordanian, the national flag carrier. Together, these enhancements aim to boost travel from Europe and improve the overall tourism landscape in Jordan.

Ryanair Resumes Major European Routes to Amman

As part of the expansive strategy, Ryanair will reestablish numerous services to Queen Alia International Airport beginning 25 October 2026. This effort underscores a substantial return of a low-cost carrier to Jordan, aiming to restore travel capacities significantly.

With the addition of 17 routes throughout Europe, including popular destinations such as Paris, Brussels, Milan, Rome, Prague, Sofia, Kraków, Bucharest, Budapest, Vienna, and Madrid, Ryanair’s restoration initiative is among the largest in the region. This expanded network is projected to accommodate over 300,000 new winter seats, demonstrating an eagerness to attract travelers during the high-demand winter months.

Wizz Air Enhances Connectivity Between Amman and Aqaba

Complementing Ryanair’s efforts, Wizz Air is also expanding its footprint in Jordan, thus reinforcing both Amman and Aqaba as key entry points for tourists. The airline will ramp up operations in Amman by increasing flight frequencies to major European cities, like London Luton, which will see up to four flights each week.

In addition, Wizz Air has announced the launch of four direct winter routes to King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba. This service begins in late October 2026 and will connect Aqaba with Katowice, Warsaw, Bucharest, and Sofia, operating twice weekly. This strategic approach not only widens access for travelers but also supports the economic development of Jordan’s northern and southern hubs.

Royal Jordanian Bolsters Long-Haul and European Capacity

With a focus on revitalizing its operational capabilities, Royal Jordanian is set to enhance both its long-haul and European route capacities. As part of its expansion in 2026, the national carrier will renew services to India starting 15 September 2026, offering four weekly flights, a crucial step in enhancing Jordan’s long-distance connectivity.

The airline will also convert a seasonally operated route into a daily service, ensuring consistent access to key global markets. Upgrading the service use of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft will reflect increasing demand and aims to improve operational efficiency during the upcoming winter season.

Strengthening Central European Ties Through Consistent Operations

Royal Jordanian has exhibited a commitment to ensuring sustained operations within Central Europe. Following its recent route launch to Vienna in late June, the airline will maintain four weekly flights to this key European city, aiming to reinforce Jordan’s presence in this lucrative market.

This strategic retention of flights is a pivotal component of Jordan’s broader strategy to enhance aviation competitiveness and bolster tourism and business travel between Jordan and Central Europe.

A Unified Approach for Tourism and Economic Growth

The collective efforts of Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Royal Jordanian signify a robust strategy aimed at bolstering national objectives for the recovery of Jordan’s tourism sector. The anticipated restoration of over 300,000 seasonal seats is expected to play a critical role in enhancing inbound tourism during the winter months while improving travel options for Jordanian passengers heading to Europe.

Improved connectivity stands as a catalyst for economic activity across multiple sectors, particularly tourism and hospitality. By diversifying routes and strengthening connectivity to numerous European destinations, Jordan is poised to reinforce its status as a significant aviation hub linking Europe with Asia and Africa.

Strategically Timed for the Winter Aviation Season Transition

The timing of this coordinated expansion is crucial, synchronized with the winter aviation season transition set for 25 October 2026. This strategic launch is designed to maximize travel demand during peak months while ensuring efficient operations across all participating airlines.

By aligning low-cost carrier expansions with the enhancements from the national airline, the new route structures foster a balanced aviation ecosystem, merging affordability with long-haul travel options. This strategy aims to rebuild traveler confidence and restore equilibrium within the airline networks following previous disruptions in the region.
