American Airlines Expands Transatlantic Journeys with New Nonstop Routes to Europe from Philadelphia and Dallas-Fort Worth

American Airlines is set to enhance the transatlantic travel experience with the introduction of four new nonstop routes that make it easier for U.S. travelers to explore iconic European destinations. The airline now offers direct flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Budapest, Hungary (BUD) and Prague, Czech Republic (PRG), alongside new services from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Athens, Greece (ATH) and Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH). These routes are part of American’s extensive summer schedule, designed to meet increasing travel demands and offer passengers a more flexible and enjoyable international flying experience.

New European Routes Increase Travel Options

These expansions signify American Airlines’ dedication to offering a broader array of travel choices, particularly for travelers seeking seamless transit between prominent U.S. cities and must-visit European locales.

Elevating Philadelphia as a Key Transatlantic Gateway

This summer, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) will witness a pivotal transformation as American Airlines rolls out its enhanced schedule. The new itinerary includes seven flight “banks”, facilitating coordinated waves of incoming and outgoing flights to streamline operations and bolster passenger flow from check-in through boarding.

Significant improvements at PHL feature:

  • Optimized on-time performance across all routes.
  • Improved connections for customers, minimizing the risk of missed transfers.
  • Advanced baggage handling systems for faster delivery.

Currently, PHL serves as a gateway to over 120 destinations worldwide, including 19 across the Atlantic, enhancing air travel options for both leisure and business travelers.

“Supported by our updated schedule and the relentless commitment from our team, we’re poised to cater to our customers’ needs this summer at PHL, particularly as the city will host several significant global events,” stated Cesar Marchese, Vice President of PHL Operations at American Airlines. “We take pride in being a pivotal connection point to Europe, now bolstered by two new iconic destinations that enhance our extensive international network.”

Dallas-Fort Worth Enhances Global Connectivity

The addition of Athens and Zurich expands the horizon of non-stop options available from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), now boasting over 230 nonstop destinations. The recent implementation of a 13-bank schedule has effectively distributed the airport’s 930 peak daily departures, mitigating delays and enhancing passenger convenience.

Recent improvements at DFW include:

  • Reduced flight delays for smoother travel experiences.
  • Enhanced connections for passengers, reducing the complications of gate changes.
  • Strengthened baggage handling systems leading to increased customer satisfaction.

“The new services to Athens and Zurich illustrate our ongoing commitment to investing in our largest hub, providing customers with even more opportunities to connect globally,” remarked Jim Moses, Senior Vice President of DFW Operations at American Airways. “We are also enhancing the travel experience through our strategically designed 13-bank schedule that optimizes operations not only at DFW but across our airline network, thanks to DFW’s impact on our operations.”

A Summer to Remember

As American Airlines embarks on its centennial summer, it has ambitious plans to serve approximately 75 million customers through 750,000 flights, marking the largest summer schedule ever. Beyond the new European routes, other notable additions include:

  • Miami (MIA) to Milan (MXP) enhancing European access.
  • New York JFK to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI), broadening options for travel to the UK.

Through these expansions, travelers can enjoy enhanced nonstop choices, simplifying their journeys to Europe and beyond during this peak travel season.

Enhancements for Traveler Satisfaction

American Airlines is committed to elevating the travel experience not only at the airport but also while onboard:

  • Redesigned mobile app for effortless management of trips, tracking of luggage, and access to digital vouchers.
  • TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID: Ensure quicker, contactless security processing at 60 airports, including all major hubs.
  • Premium lounges: Access to Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges at PHL’s A-West terminal and across all DFW terminals.
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi provided by AT&T on nearly every domestic flight for AAdvantage® members.

With these new nonstop routes, American Airlines further solidifies its leadership in transatlantic travel, guaranteeing U.S. travelers quick, convenient, and reliable connections to Europe’s most cherished destinations. As the airline meets the growing summer demand, it remains devoted to enhancing its global network, ensuring that international travels are seamless, accessible, and a pleasure for all passengers.
