Between June and December 2026, travelers can look forward to a significant network expansion from Bulgaria’s primary airports: Sofia Airport, Varna Airport, and Burgas Airport. Sofia will also strengthen its regional ties through a new direct route to Budapest, starting early July 2026, with an initial frequency of four times a week during the summer, transitioning to daily service in winter 2026 to bolster cultural, economic, and tourism connections between Bulgaria and Hungary.
Another promising addition is the seasonal service connecting Sofia to Tirana in Albania, set to operate from July 4 until September 5, 2026, three times per week, catering to tourism and business exchanges across the Balkans. Additionally, flights between Sofia and Palermo in Italy will commence on July 4, 2026, with a frequency of four times weekly in the summer, shifting to three in winter.
The growing interest in North African destinations is highlighted by the introduction of services between Bulgaria and Egypt. From July 5, 2026, travelers can book flights from Sofia to Sharm el-Sheikh, planned for Thursdays and Sundays. This route is anticipated to draw beach enthusiasts and diving aficionados to Egypt’s stunning coastlines.
In addition, a direct link to Hurghada will launch on October 27, 2026, offering twice-weekly services for those looking for warm-weather getaways during the winter months, showcasing a growing trend toward affordable leisure and resort tourism.
Varna Airport is also undergoing a significant capacity expansion, boosting its role as a major coastal aviation hub. Travelers can also expect expanded services to Barcelona, with three weekly flights set to operate soon.
A new route connecting Varna to Athens is set to open with three weekly flights, broadening accessibility to Greece while promoting tourism and business exchanges. Additionally, flights linking Varna to Debrecen in Hungary and Gdańsk in Poland are scheduled to operate three times weekly, fostering regional integration throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

Bulgaria Air is further cementing its role in enhancing the country’s aviation landscape. One notable addition is the launch of direct flights from Varna to Frankfurt starting July 6, 2026, set to operate on Mondays and Saturdays, supporting both tourist and business travel between Bulgaria and Germany.
Adding to Varna’s burgeoning network will be a new route to Rome Fiumicino, operating three times weekly from September 22, 2026, appealing to travelers for both leisure and business purposes.
While Sofia and Varna receive numerous new routes, Burgas Airport is set to enhance existing services as runway improvements wrap up. The airport is preparing to introduce increased flight frequencies, including daily operations on routes to Bratislava from June 2026.
In response to rising interest from Polish tourists, weekly flights to Gdańsk and Katowice are being increased significantly. Noteworthy are the proposed increases on the route between Burgas and Tel Aviv, where flights will rise to three times daily, reflecting ongoing tourism and business relations between Bulgaria and Israel.
Furthermore, Bulgaria Air has reinstated its seasonal Sofia-Burgas service, providing a quick 50-minute connection to the stunning Black Sea coast, with up to four flights weekly during the summer.
