PATA Celebrates Tourism Innovators at 2026 Awards Ceremony in Korea

On May 11, 2026, the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) recognized five outstanding leaders who have significantly influenced the travel and tourism landscape in the Asia Pacific region. The awards ceremony took place at the Lahan Hotel in Pohang, South Korea, coinciding with the annual PATA Executive Board and Board Member Meeting.

The prestigious PATA Life Membership, along with the PATA Awards of Merit and the PATA Chairman’s Award, were presented to these distinguished individuals for their visionary leadership and dedication to enhancing the tourism sector across the Asia Pacific.

Celebrating PATA Life Members

The esteemed PATA Life Membership, the Association’s highest honor, was awarded to SanJeet, Director of DDP Publications Private Limited, and Suman Pandey, Group Chairman of Explore Himalaya Travel & Adventure. Their achievements underscore a lifelong commitment to the advancement of tourism in the region. SanJeet has played an essential role in enhancing PATA’s influence in India, engaging in policy formulation and capacity-building initiatives through leadership roles in committees and the PATA India Chapter. His effort to bring the PATA Travel Mart to New Delhi in 2023 was instrumental in fostering regional connections and providing platforms that enable local tourism businesses to thrive.

Suman Pandey has been a key figure in shaping Nepal’s tourism sector for over 30 years, assuming leadership in various sectors including adventure travel, aviation, and hospitality. His initiatives encompass the launch of Nepal’s first Himalayan Travel Mart, the International Bloggers Conference, and the groundbreaking World’s Highest Cabinet Meeting at Kalapathar. Through community-focused programs like Development through Tourism and the Nuwakot Green Initiative, he ties tourism growth to social and environmental responsibility, emphasizing the foundation of sustainable tourism.

Acknowledging Notable Contributions with PATA Awards of Merit

The PATA Awards of Merit recognized Ben Montgomery, Corporate Ambassador for Centara Hotels & Resorts, and Judy Torres, Deputy Managing Director of the Marianas Visitors Authority. This distinction celebrates individuals who have considerably impacted the tourism sector through strategic capacity-building and advocacy. Montgomery has been pivotal in advancing tourism education and workforce development initiatives in Thailand, taking on influential roles in various associations that focus on human capital development — integral for the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.

With over three decades in destination marketing and tourism administration in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Judy Torres has spearheaded recovery strategies, airline cooperation, and sustainable development efforts that promote long-term tourism sector health. As a former board member for the PATA Micronesia Chapter, her work has contributed significantly to enhancing tourism governance and community development.

Acknowledging Exceptional Sector Support

The PATA Chairman’s Award was bestowed upon Kornchalee Tantimongkonsakul from PATA Corporate Affairs, recognizing her invaluable support to the organization’s leadership and operations. Her efforts in governance, executive coordination, and member engagement have fortified PATA’s endeavors in driving tourism sector development initiatives throughout the Asia Pacific.

Kornchalee’s contributions ensure that PATA effectively carries out capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and sector coordination — all essential components for fostering sustainable tourism growth. As the Director of DDP Publications, SanJeet oversees a diverse portfolio of ten travel industry magazines, further advocating for professional standards and sustainable practices across the sector.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism Development

The 2026 awards not only recognize individual leadership but also stress the importance of integrating community involvement, sustainability, and education into tourism growth strategies. Initiatives led by the award recipients are evident in their promotion of resilience and competitiveness within the tourism sector, exhibiting a commitment to social and environmental stewardship.

With endeavors such as the PATA Travel Mart, educational programs, adventure tourism projects, and community initiatives, these leaders exemplify how dedicated leadership can reinforce the tourism industry’s robust framework.

Fostering Regional and Global Tourism Networks

The awards ceremony positioned PATA as a pivotal hub for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and policy advocacy. By honoring leaders who bridge public and private sector efforts, PATA supports a tourism ecosystem that is both inclusive and sustainable, enabling new destinations to engage in regional trade opportunities and adopt best practices swiftly.

Looking Forward: The Future of Leadership in Tourism

The 2026 PATA Awards illuminate the vital link between visionary leadership and tourism sector development. The endeavors of leaders like SanJeet, Pandey, Montgomery, Torres, and Tantimongkonsakul highlight the diverse pathways through which effective leadership influences tourism infrastructure, innovation, human resource management, sustainability, and cultural awareness.

These individuals embody the transformative power of leadership in driving sustainable growth within the tourism sector as they pave the way for innovative initiatives that enhance global competitiveness. As the Asia Pacific continues to establish itself as a significant player in global tourism, PATA’s recognitions underscore the necessity for fostering innovative collaboration to encourage future sector growth.
