Significant Investments in Tourism Projects

The governorate is making significant strides with the signing of five investment agreements, amounting to an impressive RO11 million for tourism and service initiatives in Jabal Akhdar and Bahla. Spanning over 60,000 square meters, these projects are set to unfold over the next 15 to 50 years, showcasing a robust commitment to enhancing regional tourism.

In the scenic Jabal Akhdar, a proposed RO7.8 million integrated commercial complex will feature a three-star hotel, an educational park, an entertainment center, a shopping mall, and various tourism facilities, all designed to enrich the visitor experience and foster new job opportunities.

Furthermore, Bahla is set to benefit from the RO2.5 million Al Badou tourism project, featuring a resort, water park, and zoo, which will significantly enhance the area’s family-oriented and leisure tourism offerings.

Promoting Adventure and Mountain Tourism

Dakhliyah is keenly focused on developing mountain tourism, particularly with the exciting Grand Canyon Front project in Jabal Shams. This venture encompasses over 145,000 square meters of land and involves an estimated investment of RO11 million. These initiatives are poised to attract eco-tourists, adventure seekers, and nature lovers, further establishing Dakhliyah as a go-to destination for outdoor adventures.

Moreover, the ongoing Jabal Al Sharqi Oasis project in Al Hamra, which is currently 50% complete, aims to enhance tourism experiences through its restaurants, outdoor theater, pedestrian pathways, and inviting open spaces, catering to visitors during peak travel seasons.

Cultural Tourism through Heritage Preservation

Alongside modern developments, the governorate is allocating more than RO3.78 million towards the restoration of heritage and archaeological sites, ensuring the conservation of historic architecture while enriching cultural tourism. Urban renewal initiatives, including revitalization projects in old Al Hamra, attract visitors keen on experiencing Oman’s rich cultural and historical narrative, significantly contributing to sustainable tourism growth.

Enhancing Accessibility through Infrastructure Development

Critical infrastructure improvements are in motion, with over RO100 million set aside for road and urban enhancement projects. Collaborating with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, these developments will upgrade key internal and developmental roads, ensuring better access to hotels, resorts, cultural landmarks, and recreational facilities, thus bolstering tourism growth and overall regional economic stability.

Future Prospects for Tourism Expansion

The current and forthcoming projects in Dakhliyah pave the way for sustained growth in the tourism sector. Potential avenues for expansion include:

  • Adventure and mountain tourism in Jabal Shams and Jabal Akhdar
  • Family and leisure tourism through new resorts, water parks, and entertainment complexes
  • Cultural and heritage tourism through the rehabilitation of significant historical sites
  • Eco-tourism initiatives focusing on sustainable practices and natural exploration

These developments are projected to bolster visitor numbers, extend their stays, and increase revenue from tourism, alongside creating employment opportunities across diverse sectors such as hospitality, guiding, cultural management, and recreational services.

Establishing Dakhliyah as a Premier Tourist Destination

By intertwining stunning natural landscapes, heritage conservation, and both adventure and leisure facilities, Dakhliyah is on track to become a pivotal tourism hub within Oman. The ongoing expansion of hotels, resorts, and cultural projects, paired with robust infrastructure improvements, equips the governorate to satisfy both domestic and international tourism interest, contributing to Oman’s overarching Vision 2040 economic diversification objectives.

Driving Sustainable Tourism and Regional Progress

Investments in tourism, heritage, recreation, and infrastructure within the Dakhliyah Governorate embody a commitment to sustainable development while enhancing tourism sector prospects. As visitor numbers rise alongside diverse attractions and improved facilities, Dakhliyah is poised to emerge as a premier destination for adventure, cultural appreciation, and family-friendly tourism, all integral to its long-term growth and job creation strategies in alignment with Oman Vision 2040.
