LOT Polish Airlines Celebrates Record-Breaking 2025 Financial Year: A Look Ahead at Strategic Growth

LOT Polish Airlines has wrapped up an impressive financial year for 2025, showcasing exceptional performance and reaffirming its strong position in the market as it embarks on its 2024–2028 strategic expansion journey. The airline recorded total revenues of PLN 10.22 billion, with an operating profit (EBIT) of PLN 422 million and a net profit of PLN 350 million, marking it as one of the most successful years in its operational history.

This remarkable achievement highlights LOT’s ability to maintain profitability despite aggressive network growth and operational scaling. The operating margin, which remained above 4 percent, reflects effective cost control measures and boosted revenue generation from core routes.

The growth trajectory of LOT Polish Airlines is commendable, with a 2.9 percent increase in total revenues compared to 2024, driven by enhanced connectivity, rising passenger demand, and ongoing network enhancements. This financial upside coincided with preparations for a significant fleet modernization endeavor—one of the largest in the airline’s history—that aims to bolster the efficiency of both long-haul and regional flights.

Selected routes feature the modern Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which boasts a dual-cabin configuration catering to LOT Business Class and LOT Economy Class travelers, thus elevating passenger comfort and operational efficiency on shorter and medium-haul services.

Michał Fijoł, CEO at LOT Polish Airlines, remarked: “The results for 2025 demonstrate our capacity to marry dynamic growth with financial prudence. We successfully transported a record number of passengers, expanded our flight network, and introduced the most significant fleet modernization program in our history, achieving a net profit of PLN 350 million. Such results lay a robust foundation as we implement the next stages of our strategy for the years 2024–2028. Our ambition is to position LOT Polish Airlines as the leading carrier in the region.”

The year 2025 has been transformative for LOT Polish Airlines as it achieved its peak operational performance regarding passenger traffic and network growth.

Over the year, the airline welcomed around 11.7 million travelers, reflecting an impressive rise of 9.4 percent from the previous year, marking its highest annual traffic ever recorded. July was particularly notable, with nearly 1.19 million passengers flying with LOT, setting a new monthly milestone.

This consistent upward trend underscores the effectiveness of LOT’s long-term growth strategy. The airline has successfully strengthened its competitive edge through enhanced connectivity between Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, and key destinations across Europe, North America, and Asia. Enhanced network options and elevated service quality have significantly contributed to the growing passenger base.

An important milestone in 2025 was the comprehensive fleet agreement signed with Airbus during the Paris Air Show. The contract entails the acquisition of 40 Airbus A220 aircraft, with the option for an additional 44 units. Should all options be undertaken, this ambitious order could expand LOT’s fleet by up to 84 aircraft, representing a pivotal fleet initiative in the airline’s trajectory.

The first deliveries of the A220 aircraft are planned for 2027, a vital component in reshaping LOT’s regional operations. The airline aims to standardize its short and medium-haul fleet around the A220 family, which is anticipated to enhance operational efficiency, streamline flight scheduling, and deliver a consistent and improved passenger experience.

In parallel to this strategic investment, LOT has also increased its narrow-body fleet with the arrival of its initial Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft by December 2025. A total of 13 aircraft are in the pipeline, featuring upgraded interiors to elevate passenger comfort on European and medium-haul routes. Additional aircraft deliveries are expected in the first half of 2026 to support ongoing capacity expansion.

Network expansion has remained a cornerstone of development through 2025. The airline unveiled nine new routes, including destinations such as Warsaw to Lisbon, Thessaloniki, Reykjavik, Marrakech, Stavanger, Rovaniemi, Malta, and connections from Krakow to Paris Orly and Radom to Barcelona. This expansion amplifies both leisure and business travel opportunities across various markets.

More growth is on the horizon, with 15 additional routes planned for 2026. In total, the airline is set to introduce over 20 new or planned connections, significantly expanding its accessibility from Warsaw and regional airports throughout Poland.

A strategic pivot towards enhancing regional operations has been emphasized, with new services initiated from Krakow to Paris Orly and additional routes from Krakow to Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid. Gdansk will also see an increased flight schedule, including routes to Istanbul, Brussels, Oslo, and Bergen. This decentralized growth model enhances accessibility for travelers outside the capital, thereby boosting tourism, trade, and regional economic activity.

In terms of product quality, LOT Polish Airlines has garnered significant international accolades. The airline was awarded a prestigious four-star rating by Skytrax and recognized as the Best Airline in Eastern Europe at the World Airline Awards 2025. These honors reflect notable improvements in onboard services, lounge enhancements in Warsaw, and updates to cabin designs aimed at delivering a consistent premium experience across all travel classes.

Environmental responsibility remains a critical aspect of LOT’s mission. The airline achieved the IATA Environmental Assessment certification, confirming compliance with global environmental management benchmarks. Furthermore, it secured its fourth IATA CEIV certification for cargo, specifically for live animal transport, adding to its existing qualifications for pharmaceuticals, perishables, and lithium batteries. This positions LOT among an elite group with comprehensive operational compliance credentials.

In conclusion, 2025 was not just a successful year; it was a transformative one for LOT Polish Airlines, marked by strong passenger growth, an aggressive fleet modernization strategy, network diversification, and elevated service standards. With a solid financial foundation and a clear vision for expansion from 2024 to 2028, the airline is well-prepared to advance into the next growth phase with enhanced operational capability and a broader global presence.

Michał Fijoł encapsulated the year’s achievements by stating: “It was a very good year for both stable financial outcomes and in terms of expanding our flight network and service quality. We are proud to observe the positive response from our passengers and the recognition from the industry. Despite challenges such as fluctuating fuel prices, we are committed to our developmental trajectory. In 2026, we anticipate the arrival of twelve new Boeing 737 MAX 8s and two Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, followed by the A220s beginning in 2027. These investments will bolster our capability to launch new routes and reinforce LOT Polish Airlines’ status as a modern airline that, by the end of the decade, will boast one of the youngest fleets in Europe.”
