Flydubai, the Emirates-based airline, is marking a significant milestone with the launch of its first-ever direct flights from Dubai to Benghazi. This expansion sees flydubai become the inaugural UAE-based carrier to operate routes directly into Benghazi Benina International Airport (BEN). Set to commence on June 17, 2026, this new service will depart from Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 (DXB) and is designed to significantly enhance travel connectivity between the UAE and Libya, offering greater convenience for travelers from Benghazi to connect to flydubai’s diverse global destinations.

Boosting Tourism and Travel in Libya

The introduction of a direct flight from Dubai to Benghazi opens the door for business and leisure travelers, providing a much-needed boost in tourist inflow from the UAE, the Middle East, and beyond. With improved accessibility, local tour operators, hospitality establishments, and attractions in Libya can take advantage of this new influx of visitors, leading to the creation of exciting new tourism products, such as cultural tours, coastal excursions, and premium accommodations.

The anticipated growth of Libya’s hospitality sector is promising, as enhanced air connectivity is expected to draw both domestic and international tourists. This surge in visitors will in turn generate revenue for hotels, restaurants, and transportation services, supporting local businesses. As Benghazi acts as a gateway to Libya’s eastern regions, tourists will have the opportunity to explore historical sites, picturesque Mediterranean beaches, and emerging leisure attractions, which will further strengthen sustainable tourism infrastructure.

Flight Details and Fare Structure

Flydubai will operate flights between Dubai and Benghazi three times a week, ensuring flexibility for both inbound and outbound travelers:

  • FZ 1147: DXB → BEN, Departure at 06:50, Arrival at 10:45
  • FZ 1148: BEN → DXB, Departure at 11:45, Arrival at 19:15

This route will also be integrated into the flydubai–Emirates codeshare partnership, making it easier for passengers to enjoy smooth travel experiences with options for single-ticket itineraries and through check-in services.

Fare options are structured to cater to a wide range of travelers:

  • Business Class: DXB–BEN starting from AED 10,500; BEN–DXB starting from USD 2,500
  • Economy Class Lite: DXB–BEN starting from AED 4,500; BEN–DXB starting from USD 800

These competitive pricing options are designed to encourage both short-haul business travel and long-haul leisure tourism, thereby increasing overall travel demand in the region.

Strategic Expansion in Africa

The addition of Benghazi to flydubai’s roster enhances its presence in East and North Africa, following the recent launches to Nairobi, Kenya, and seasonal services to Al Alamein, Egypt. This strategic expansion positions the airline to tap into new markets, meet rising travel demands, and promote cross-border tourism.

Furthermore, flydubai has resumed operations to its existing routes across the GCC, Middle East, and European destinations, including popular vacation hotspots like Bodrum, Dubrovnik, Mykonos, Santorini, and Tivat. A forthcoming daily service to Bangkok, set to begin on July 1, 2026, further strengthens connectivity across the Asian continent.

Impacts on Tourism, Hospitality, and Trade

The direct flights from Dubai to Benghazi are set to bring numerous benefits to the travel and tourism sector:

  • Increased tourist arrivals from the UAE, the Middle East, and international markets.
  • Growth in hotel occupancy, local dining, transport, and service industries.
  • Expansion of cultural, historical, and coastal tourism offerings in Libya.
  • Support for business tourism, facilitating trade, conferences, and investment activities.
  • Promotion of regional connectivity, enhancing Libya’s role as a travel hub.

Additionally, the flights are likely to boost cruise tourism in North Africa, providing easier access to coastal cities and ports, which would stimulate port operations and hospitality services.

Leadership Comments

According to flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, the launch of this route aligns with the airline’s vision to open underserved markets while leveraging Dubai’s status as an aviation hub. Senior management pointed out that the Benghazi route is expected to support increased travel demand during peak times such as Eid and summer holidays, thereby strengthening regional tourism flow and enhancing the UAE’s reputation as a key gateway to Africa.

Conclusion: A New Era for Connectivity

The introduction of flights from Dubai to Benghazi is a significant achievement in enhancing regional connectivity. As flydubai facilitates better access to Libya, this new route is poised to drive growth in the hospitality sector and the broader economy, promoting spending and attracting more travelers to explore Libya’s rich cultural and historical landscapes.
