The new initiative, titled “One Journey, One Ticket, Full Rights”, proposes a cohesive system that will allow travelers to plan, compare, and book multi-leg train trips using a single ticket, regardless of which operators they choose. This initiative is set to eliminate the troublesome practice of purchasing separate tickets and dealing with disjointed bookings that continue to complicate international train travel in the EU.
Under the proposed framework, travelers will have the ability to effortlessly search for and purchase a combined rail ticket that encompasses all segments of their cross-border journey in one straightforward transaction. At present, many travelers find the need to buy separate tickets from different national or private rail service providers a burdensome and confusing process. The new system aims to present all operators’ journeys collectively on various booking platforms chosen by travelers, be it through independent ticket sellers or national rail websites, thus making it considerably easier to plan trips such as Paris to Berlin or Lyon to Munich.

A vital aspect of the EU’s initiative is the enhancement of passenger rights. In traditional scenarios, if a traveler misses a connection on an international trip purchased via separate tickets, they often find themselves lacking support, experiencing minimal obligation from carriers for compensation or assistance.
