Ottawa has made headlines for successfully hosting the 31st Triennial World Conference of the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW). This remarkable event not only celebrated the completion of a significant eight-year partnership between Ottawa Tourism and ACWW but also marked a pivotal moment in global collaboration and cultural exchange.
The partnership between these two organizations began in 2018 when Nick Newland from ACWW met the Ottawa Tourism team. What started as an informal discussion about shared values and goals has flourished into a longstanding alliance focused on enhancing the global outreach of ACWW and facilitating impactful events. The 2026 Triennial World Conference at The Westin Ottawa was the culmination of this effort.
The conference attracted delegates from around the globe, providing them with a week rich in governance activities, cultural experiences, and the opportunity to forge genuine connections. Attendees were treated to a diverse array of mid-conference tours and local agricultural visits that showcased the charm of Ottawa and its surrounding areas. A highlight of the event was a grand gala dinner held at the prestigious Canadian Museum of History.
The success of this conference can be attributed not only to meticulous planning but also to the deep collaboration nurtured between ACWW and Ottawa Tourism. Their partnership has been characterized by ongoing interactions and smaller events that have developed a strong foundation over the years leading up to the conference. This groundwork ensured that the final event encapsulated the unique allure of Ottawa, resonating well with attendees.

With a firm commitment to fostering international partnerships, Ottawa Tourism and ACWW illustrated how meaningful collaborations can create lasting impacts for destinations and global communities alike. This conference not only marked a successful event but also laid the groundwork for continued collaboration that will benefit ACWW members and the city of Ottawa for years to come.
Michael Crockatt, President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism, expressed: “This has been far more than a conference win for Ottawa. It reflects an eight-year relationship that has been built on trust and shared ambitions. From our initial meeting in 2018 to the last delegate leaving Ottawa, our partnership has evolved significantly. The smaller events and ongoing collaboration provided a solid foundation that allowed us to build on rather than start anew with the world conference.”
“The work of ACWW is crucial, addressing issues such as rural women’s empowerment and community advocacy. Ottawa was thrilled to serve as a host for dialogues on these essential topics, linking delegates with the vibrant local communities and experiences that characterize Canada’s capital. The fruitful outcome of this event underscores the strength of long-term partnerships over transactional interactions.”
Founded in 1929, ACWW aims to unite rural women and their organizations, advocating for policy development and grassroots initiatives worldwide, emphasizing the empowerment of rural women in various forms.
Nick Newland, Advocacy Director & Chief Privacy Officer at ACWW, remarked: “When I first connected with the Ottawa team in 2018, none of us could foresee what the subsequent years would bring. However, what became evident was Ottawa’s genuine understanding of ACWW and our objectives for the Triennial World Conference. This comprehension has only grown over time, resulting in an event that was well-conceived and aligned with our organizational values.”
“Hosting a global conference requires more than just a venue and logistics; it necessitates a partner dedicated to understanding the audience and overcoming challenges together. Ottawa Tourism has embodied this spirit throughout the journey. The earlier smaller events and discussions paved the way for trust and familiarity, enhancing the overall experience when our members finally convened in Ottawa.”
For Ottawa Tourism, this event highlighted the importance of nurturing long-term partnerships, particularly in congress and conference settings where community engagement and legacy-building are essential for success.
Crockatt concluded: “This event exemplifies Ottawa’s strengths: we connect people in a capital city environment, engage them with relevant local expertise, and support organizers in facilitating events that leave a lasting impact beyond the meeting room. We take immense pride in what we achieved alongside ACWW and cherish the partnership that made it possible.”
