In a significant leap for China’s aircraft manufacturing sector, the C919 passenger jet is set to cross its first international frontier. Starting from 12 August 2026, Air China will commence daily flights between Beijing Capital International Airport and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This new route marks the C919’s inaugural scheduled service to a foreign destination, enhancing connectivity between these two vibrant Asian capitals.
According to reports from China’s Xinhua News Agency, Air China will operate this route with one return flight daily. The flights are scheduled to depart Beijing at 3 PM, arriving in Ulaanbaatar at 5:15 PM local time, while the return journey from Ulaanbaatar will leave at 6:30 PM, landing back in Beijing by 8:35 PM. Tickets for the flights are already available for purchase via the Air China app and authorized booking platforms. This operation not only signifies a new chapter for the C919 but also represents an evolution from domestic to international air travel.

The C919 is a milestone for Chinese aviation, having officially entered commercial service on 28 May 2023, when China Eastern Airlines flew the jet between Shanghai Hongqiao and Beijing Capital airports. This flight carried 128 passengers and was the culmination of years of research, test flights, and regulatory scrutiny. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) granted the C919 its type certification in September 2022, recognizing it as the country’s first independently developed trunk jetliner adhering to international airworthiness standards.
Prior to the Ulaanbaatar service, the C919 had seen regular operations between Shanghai and Hong Kong since January 2025, establishing Hong Kong as its first international destination.
