Saudi Arabia and UAE Aviation Industry Booms with Over 140 Million Passengers

In 2025, Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector embarked on an impressive growth trajectory, as the nation’s airports collectively processed a staggering 140.9 million passengers. This leap further cements the Kingdom’s position as a pivotal player in global air travel, enhancing its attractiveness for tourism, religious pilgrimages, and business connectivity. Major hubs such as Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam are rapidly evolving into key international transit points bridging the Middle East with Asia, Europe, and Africa.

This rise in passenger numbers corresponds with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to reduce the country’s dependency on oil by bolstering the economy through tourism. A notable increase in international flights, expanded airline routes, and the growing influx of religious tourists heading to Makkah and Madinah have all contributed to this remarkable aviation upswing.

Competitive dynamics are also intensifying among domestic airlines. Carriers including Saudia, flynas, and Flyadeal are enhancing their market foothold as the demand for both affordable and premium travel options continues to rise across the region. This expansion translates to improved connectivity, increased flight frequencies, and simplified access to a range of travel routes—whether for religious purposes, leisure, or business within the Kingdom.

Jeddah Takes the Lead as Saudi Arabia’s Largest Aviation Hub

Among Saudi Arabia’s airports, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah emerged as the most trafficked in 2025, hosting an impressive 53.5 million travelers. This significant traffic underscores its status as the country’s busiest airport, largely driven by the heavy flow of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims who transit through Jeddah en route to Makkah.

Following Jeddah, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh facilitated 40.8 million passengers, while King Fahd International Airport in Dammam processed 13.7 million passengers, fueled by a surge in business travel and regional connectivity.

The distribution of passenger traffic across these airports reflects Saudi Arabia’s shifting aviation landscape. Jeddah remains vital for pilgrimage travel, while Riyadh is establishing itself as a hub for business and government activities, and Dammam is progressively linked to energy-sector mobility and broader Gulf travel.

International Travel Demand on the Rise

Saudi aviation data highlights a surge in international passenger traffic, which reached 75.8 million in 2025, marking a 9.4 percent increase over the previous year. Domestic travel saw similar growth, surging to 65.1 million passengers, indicative of a booming internal tourism sector and increased corporate travel.

Daily operations at the Kingdom’s airports average a remarkable 207,700 international travelers and 178,600 domestic passengers, reflecting the robust demand for both internal and international travel.

Domestic Flights 65.1 million 9.8%

Saudi Arabia’s tourism transformation has been pivotal in driving this growth. Large-scale developments, including projects along the Red Sea, the expansion of AlUla heritage sites, Diriyah Gate, and the NEOM project, are attracting increasing numbers of international visitors. Simplified visa processes and extensive airline connections are positioning the Kingdom as a burgeoning tourism gem in the region.

Record Flight Operations Across Saudi Airports

The country also witnessed substantial growth in flight operations, with Saudi airports facilitating nearly 979,800 flights in 2025—an increase of 8.3 percent compared to the previous year.

Domestic flights accounted for 506,300 operations, while international flights totaled 473,500, underscoring a growing demand from overseas travelers and improved accessibility to Saudi Arabian airspace.

Jeddah led flight activity with 314,400 flights, followed by Riyadh with 296,800 flights. Dammam registered approximately 108,500 flights during the year, reflecting the growing accessibility of the Kingdom for global travelers.

Intensified Competition in Saudi Airspace

The competitive landscape of Saudi Arabia’s aviation market is evolving, with both full-service and low-cost airlines intensifying their market presence.

In 2025, national airline Saudia dominated with a 25.5 percent market share, while low-cost airlines like flynas and Flyadeal accounted for 13.3 percent and 8.6 percent, respectively.
