The festival offers more than just an opportunity to savor delectable pineapples—it serves as a pivotal platform that links farmers with consumers, businesses, retailers, and global markets. Here, agricultural innovation, sustainable practices, and entrepreneurship converge to create new economic opportunities for rural communities throughout the state.

Bringing Together Farmers, Consumers, and Businesses in Delhi

Visitors at the festival can expect to indulge their palates while exploring a range of innovative pineapple-based products. The event operates from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM each day, allowing ample time for attendees to purchase fresh pineapples, discover value-added food items, and engage directly with pineapple growers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) from different regions of Meghalaya.

Adding a rich cultural dimension to the festivities, the festival will also feature vibrant performances by artists participating in the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (MGMP), celebrating the region’s artistic heritage.

Organized by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, the festival stands as a flagship initiative that aims to foster direct connections between producers and markets. By moving beyond traditional sales methods, the festival empowers farmers and paves the way for them to tap into larger commercial networks.

A Sustainable Vision for Meghalaya’s Agricultural Economy

The Meghalaya Pineapple Festival aligns with the state government’s larger vision of transforming agriculture into a sustainable engine for economic growth. The initiative emphasizes a holistic approach, enhancing the agricultural landscape from cultivation to marketing, and reinforcing the importance of ethical and sustainable farming practices.

The festival acts as a direct conduit for agricultural communities, showcasing their products and forging lasting business relationships while exploring new market opportunities. This initiative is a key component of Meghalaya’s long-term strategy outlined in Vision@2032, which aims to elevate farmers’ incomes and promote sustainable practices.

Moreover, the Meghalaya State Organic Mission, with a budget of ₹295 crore, is working to increase certified organic farming across one lakh hectares by 2028. This ambitious plan seeks to benefit over 90,000 farmers while enhancing more than 600 cooperatives and producer groups, highlighting pineapples as a significant horticultural crop within this transformative plan.

Recognizing Meghalaya’s Distinctive Pineapples

Meghalaya’s pineapples have gained widespread acclaim due to their unrivaled sweetness, low acidity, and impressive sugar content. With a remarkable Brix value of approximately 16–18 degrees, they are among the sweetest pineapples produced in the country.

The popularity of these pineapples has transcended national boundaries, capturing the attention of international markets, including significant exports to Lulu Hypermarkets in Dubai and the UAE. Collaborative efforts with Farmer Producer Organisations, such as the Jirang Organic Agro FPO, have significantly contributed to connecting local farmers with global consumers, building reliable supply chains that enhance competitiveness.

The success of Meghalaya’s pineapples illustrates how traditional farms can benefit from improved market access and enhanced branding, positioning themselves for success in a globalized market.

The Growing Success of the Festival

The Meghalaya Pineapple Festival has experienced impressive growth, reflective of increasing consumer demand for the state’s premium produce. Fresh pineapple sales jumped from 7.7 metric tonnes in 2023 to 15.4 metric tonnes in 2025, underscoring the festival’s evolving role as a promotional and marketplace hub for farmers.

Moreover, the festival has facilitated lastingly beneficial partnerships between farmer groups and major businesses such as Reliance Fresh, Amazon Karigar, Safal Foods Pvt. Ltd., and Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters, creating more opportunities for stable incomes and promoting investment in agricultural production and branding.

Looking Forward: Strengthening Partnerships and Global Outreach

As we look ahead to the 2026 Meghalaya Pineapple Festival, the event promises to deepen the connections between farmers, consumers, and businesses. The opening ceremony will take place on July 10, 2026, featuring notable officials such as the Union Minister of DoNER and Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, as Chief Guest, and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, as Guest of Honour.

The inaugural proceedings will include direct interactions between attendees, farmers, and entrepreneurs, alongside a special film that showcases the journey of Meghalaya’s pineapples. The festival will also witness significant memoranda of understanding being signed with partners like Flipkart and National E-Markets Limited (NeML), aiming to unlock digital and commercial avenues for the local farming community.

Through these shared efforts, the festival seeks to expand market access and catalyze agricultural entrepreneurship while unveiling the potential of Meghalaya’s pineapple industry.

By evolving from a regional celebration to a notable platform for sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship, the 2026 Meghalaya Pineapple Festival aims to further establish Meghalaya’s pineapples as one of India’s unique agricultural treasures. The festival presents a promising opportunity for visitors to engage with local farmers, taste distinct products, and celebrate the rich culture of Meghalaya through various artistic performances.
