More flight services from China to Melbourne to boost tourism

Every week, world’s one of the largest airlines in China will add 10 additional flight services to Melbourne.

This would be bringing greater number of tourists, allowing more exports and generating more job opportunities.

For this, thanks to the help and support from the Andrews Labor Government.


Today, the minister for industry and innovation, Ben Carroll, declared that on a per week basis, China Southern Airlines by the end of 2024 from Guangzhou province will operate 17 non-stop flight services to Melbourne and potentially Shenzhen.


Supported by the Labor Government and Melbourne Airport, the additional10 flight services every week will add approximately 154,000 seats to Melbourne and every year, this move will contribute over $308
million to the Victorian financial system, as developing an estimated 1,700 jobs in tourism and aviation.


At present, on a daily basis, China Southern operates flights to Melbourne Airport from Guangzhou, one of the largest cities in China and the main transport and business center.

By November, the airline will introduce two daily flights and on a weekly basis, add three more flights from either Guangzhou or Shenzhen, located close by December 2024.


From China, the additional flight services will help speed up the return of visitors which was the largest foreign tourism market in 2019 in Victoria with over 675,000 visitors contributing $3.4 billion to the domestic financial system.
