In an exciting move to bolster its tourism sector, the Sri Lankan Government has announced a new visa policy that allows citizens from 40 countries to obtain a free electronic travel authorization (ETA). The comprehensive list of eligible nations features: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Additionally, travelers from Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore will benefit from favorable bilateral agreements, with Maldivians eligible for a 90-day visa.
Previously, Indian passport holders and nationals from other SAARC nations were required to pay USD 20 for a 30-day visa upon arrival, while travelers from other countries faced a fee of USD 50. However, with the new ETA policy, Indian and eligible travelers can now secure their ETA online free of charge, eliminating the financial burden and streamlining the entry process. This change aims to enhance the overall travel experience, encouraging more international guests to uncover Sri Lanka’s stunning landscapes, wildlife, and historic landmarks.
Travelers from the designated countries need to apply for their ETA through the official government portal.
