In a significant disruption across both Australia and New Zealand, numerous flights have been grounded, leaving passengers stuck at various major airports, including Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Wellington, and Christchurch. Reports indicate that over 90 flights have been cancelled, notably impacting major airlines like Air New Zealand, Qantas, and Virgin Australia.

At Sydney Airport (YSSY), a total of more than 16 flight cancellations have been recorded, with disrupted arrivals affecting services from Melbourne (MEL / YMML), Brisbane (BNE / YBBN), Christchurch (CHC / NZCH), Adelaide (ADL / YPAD), and Perth (PER / YPPH). Not to be outdone, Brisbane Airport (YBBN) has also faced cancellations and delays, affecting both arrivals and departures, while services from airlines like SOL, VOZ, and QFA experienced interruptions for flights connecting to Sydney and Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (YMML) has seen several cancellations on flights with Qantas and Virgin Australia, primarily affecting routes from Bali (DPS / WADD) and domestic locations like Adelaide and the Gold Coast. In further developments, Perth International Airport (YPPH) faced cancellations for inbound flights from Brisbane.

New Zealand airports have not been spared either. Auckland Airport (NZAA) saw multiple cancellations, particularly affecting flights to Nelson and Taupo. Conditions at Wellington (NZWN) and Christchurch (NZCH) remained similar, showcasing substantial disruptions with numerous cancellations for domestic routes including connections from Hamilton, Queenstown, and other regional destinations.

The impact of these cancellations has left hundreds of passengers stranded, compelling many to seek alternate transportation while companies navigate the unexpected disruptions. With on-the-ground reports confirming a staggering over 100 flights impacted between the two nations, particularly during peak travel times, the ripple effect is expected to linger for days to come.
