Assam witnesses two-fold increase in travellers

Assam saw almost a two-fold increase in the number of travelers coming to the state likened to the situation a decade back. As per info by the state tourism department, Assam exceeded the yearly tourist numbers seen in the years before the pandemic. A senior representative in the Assam tourism division said that the cause behind the increase in tourist numbers this year is because of the department’s lively campaign of the tourism segment in the last 1-2 years.


They made use of digital media campaigns and held roadshows in important cities like Mumbai, Kolkata,
Delhi and Chennai. These roadshows engaged enthusiasts from Odisha, Gujarat and West Bengal.


The Assam tourism division focused on tourists from around the world and held a month-long Brahmaputra festival, which happened on January 1, this year. The festival targeted to enthral the responsiveness of people from all over the world by exhibiting Assamese culture, traditions, craft and food and presented adventure undertakings at the same time.


Just before the occurrence of the pandemic, the year 2019-2020 saw nearly 51 lakh travelers, comprising
local and overseas coming to the tourist attractions in Assam. Nevertheless, after the relaxing of the
pandemic restrictions, the years 2022-2023 witnessed a surge.
